Howard Named Ace Hardware Helpful Player of the Month
March 31, 2009
WHAT:
Ace Hardware, in conjunction with the Orlando Magic, will honor one Magic player each month during the 2008-09 season as the Ace Hardware “Helpful Player of the Month.” Each selection will be based on their dedication to the Central Florida community and will exemplify Ace’s vision as “The Helpful Place.”
WHO:
Dwight Howard has been named the Ace Hardware “Helpful Player of the Month” for his willingness to give back to the Central Florida community. Howard has been active in the community in the past month, helping the Magic, the City of Orlando and KaBOOM! team up to build a new playground in one day for children at the John H. Jackson Community Center, surprising students at Lake Como Elementary to show them who the “Superman” was behind their Blessings in a Backpack program and volunteering his time at the 19th Annual Orlando Magic Youth Fund Black Tie & Tennies Charity Gala. Howard donated $25,000 to the Blessings in a Backpack project, which is a program designed to provide food and nutrition to children on weekends when school is not in session so that on Monday they return ready to learn.
