The Orlando Magic improved to an Eastern Conference best 10-4 record with a 98-79 route against the Atlanta Hawks. The Magic were led by 28 points from Keyon Dooling (15) and Carlos Arroyo (13), while Keith Bogans scored 13 points in replacing Grant Hill in the starting lineup. J.J. Redick made his NBA debut and hit his first shot as a professional. The Magic now head west where they begin a six-game road trip Monday at Utah.
Orlando darted out to a 31-18 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back. A few minutes into the third quarter, the Magic had built the lead to 30. The team also prevented Joe Johnson from having his normal shooting night - limiting the Hawks star to 6-of-15 from the field for 16 points.
With a 20-point lead in the final minutes of the fourth quarter, Redick stepped into a regular season NBA game for the first time and swished his first shot just inside the three-point line.
9:29PM: MAGIC WIN! A very good night in Orlando. Final score - Magic 98, Hawks 79.
9:28PM: Redick's second shot attempt goes in and out and his former Dukie teammate Shelden Williams hits a three at the other end. We've just 1:06 left in this one.
9:26PM: The crowd is on the edge of its seat with J.J.'s every move. And they are cheering everytime he touches the ball. I bet Atlanta can't wait to get out of this place. Solomon Jones was just called for a flagrant 1 foul on Trevor Ariza as Trevor went up for a layup. Magic lead, 98-76 with 1:34 left.
9:22PM: His first shot attempt....and it's good!! Diener hits a three as well and the crowd is in hysterics! For a 23-point ballgame, the crowd is going crazy. My colleague just told me J.J. breathed a huge sigh of relief after hitting that shot!
9:19PM: AND MAKING HIS NBA DEBUT....one of the greatest shooters in college basketball history - J.J. Redick!! The crowd is going nuts!! He's getting a standing ovation. 3:27 left in the fourth quarter.
9:18PM: While Atlanta has picked up its game in the second half, the Magic aren't allowing the game to get close. Arroyo just was sent to the line after getting fouled but hitting the shot. He connected on the free throw and the Magic lead is 21, 89-68 with 4:30 left.
9:14PM: Dwight Howard has just fouled out with 6:01 left in the game with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Dwight seems very surprised he was called with that foul on Zaza Pachulia. Bo Outlaw replaces Dwight on the floor. Magic still lead, 86-66.
9:08PM: The lead is still 20 with 7:05 left in the game, 85-65.
9:04PM: The Magic have six players in double figures, led by Turkoglu's 14 points. Bogans has 13, Nelson 11, Howard 10, Arroyo 10 and Dooling 10.
9:01PM: A poor start to the quarter by the Magic have brought the Hawks with 16 points at 79-63.
8:58PM: The crowd is chanting now..."We Want J.J.!"
8:54PM: That's the end of three and the Magic lead, 79-57. J.J. Redick's debut coming soon! (at least I hope)
8:53PM: Even during bad spurts tonight, the Magic are still playing well. Hedo just missed a three, but Darko was there for the offensive board and put back. Magic lead, 77-57.
8:44PM: Keith Bogans looking good tonight in Grant Hill's absence. Bogans now has 13 points in his 22 minutes of action, which currently leads the team. Magic now lead, 68-43.
8:38PM: The Hawks run continues with Tyronn Lue hitting a shot while being fouled and getting the free throw to make it 59-41. But Hedo hits a three to make it 62-41. That is followed by a Dwight Howard slam from Darko and it's now 64-41. Poor Hawks can't keep anything going.
8:36PM: Atlanta is on its biggest run of the night at 7-0 and has cut the lead to 59-36. Make that 59-38 with Josh Smith's jumper.
8:30PM: A pair of Keith Bogans free throws have given Orlando its largest lead of the night at 30, 59-29.
8:27PM: Third quarter underway and within the next hour, J.J. Redick could be making his NBA debut...just a Baseline Blog hunch. Atlanta misses its first field goal attempt of the second half.
8:10PM: Halftime here in Orlando and it's a 57-29 lead. Yeah, no typo....57-29. Let's see if Atlanta comes out of the locker room after that first half schlacking!!
8:08PM: Okay...I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I think we'll see J.J. Redick make his NBA debut tonight! This one is getting out of control - it's now a 55-27 Magic lead after a monster dunk by Darko!
8:06PM: I'm thinking maybe the Hawks filled up on a bit too much turkey or stuffing over the holiday weekend - at least I hope that's the excuse. Eleven turnovers, 27.3 percent from the field - an airball just now by Matt Freije and they now trail, 51-27.
7:57PM: I think the Magic are wanting to get this one over with in a hurry so they can watch that Kansas-Florida hoops matchup tonight from Las Vegas or the end of the USC-Notre Dame clash. Speaking of the West, the Magic begin a six-game road trip on Monday in Utah. Orlando has built its lead to 17 at 45-28. Arroyo just hit a three and it's now a 48-28 ballgame.
7:53PM: Magic have roared back and now lead by 15 after a steal ends up with a Trevor Ariza layup. The count is now Magic 39, Hawks 24.
7:49PM: Atlanta off to a good start in the second quarter. The Hawks have scored the first six points of the second period to cut the deficit to only seven. But a Keyon Dooling three pointer brings the Magic lead back to double digits, 34-24.
7:40PM: One quarter in the books here in Orlando and the Magic are in contol, 31-18.
7:37PM: Less than a minute left in the opening corner and the Magic are off to a 27-12 start. All's well so far with the team shooting 61 percent from the field with only three turnovers. Hedo has nine points and Jameer's got eight.
7:29PM: A great start for the Magic, who now lead 21-9. Hedo now has eight points and taking advantage of the size mismatch that had Salim Stoudamire guarding him.
7:24PM: Atlanta double team on Howard leaves Keith Bogans wide open for a three and the Magic are out to a 12-3 lead. Atlanta is only 1-of-11 from the field, getting its only bucket from former Magic player Tyronn Lue, who came off the bench for the Hawks and was greeted with an assortment of cheers and boos.
7:20PM: We got a pitching matchup going on here in Orlando as Atlanta is 0-of-9 from the field and and the Magic is only 1-of-6. Magic lead, 3-0.
7:17PM: Jameer Nelson is fouled and goes to the free throw line where his first shot goes through and the Magic are on the board. He misses the second. Magic 1, Hawks 0.
7:12PM: Tip-off time and we've got by D12 - Dwight Howard lining up against former Magic player Zaza Pachulia. And the tip goes to...the Magic. First possession for the hometown team, Hedo tries to pass inside to Tony Battie but Atlanta gets a hand on it and the Magic turn it over. However, Atlanta gets called for three seconds at the other end and the turnover battle is locked at 1-1. Magic unable to convert on second possession as Bogans misses a jumper. Atlanta at the other end can't get a shot off as the shot-clock expires. Magic miss second shot as Battie comes up short on a jumper. Joe Johnson then misses on Atlanta's possession and the 0-0 tie continues...
7:11PM: For those of you who couldn't make it to the arena tonight, sorry but no TV. However, you can now spend your evening Baseline Blogging it with me!
At 9-4, the team is looking good. So good that most would think this game against Atlanta will be a shoo-in. But just remember this, for whatever reason, Atlanta seems to always play well against us. And these Hawks have started the season 5-5.
7:08PM: Greeting everyone and welcome to tonight's game. Here are tonight's starting lineups: For Atlanta - Josh Smith, Shelden Williams, Zaza Pachulia, Cedric Bozeman and Joe Johnson. And for the Magic: Hedo Turkoglu, Tony Battie, Dwight Howard, Keith Bogans and Jameer Nelson. Grant Hill is not with the team tonight as he traveled to New Orleans early today to attend the funeral of his grandmother.
Pre-Game Preview

The Orlando Magic paid their first road visit of the season to Atlanta on Nov. 5 and the team ended up leaving with a bitter taste in their mouths after a not-so-great performance sent the team back to Orlando with a 95-82 defeat to their Southeast Division rivals. This time around, the Magic will be seeking to settle the score as Atlanta pays a visit to Orlando. This is the last home game before the Magic embark on a six-game, 11-day road trip.
This game is not televised in the Orlando area, so the only way to see it is live. Get your tickets today!
After marching out to a 4-1 record, the Hawks have faltered a bit - despite the impressive play of Joe Johnson, who is averaging more than 27 ppg. Former Magic players Zaza Pachulia and Tyronn Lue have also played well, averaging 15.0 and 14.6 ppg respectively.
The Magic will be without Grant Hill for this game as the veteran will be in New Orleans attending the funeral of his grandmother. In his place, Keith Bogans, Trevor Ariza and possibly even J.J. Redick will be called upon to fill the two slot.
