The Orlando Magic improved to 20-14 on the season in impressive fashion, scoring a 32-point victory against Southeast Division rival Charlotte Bobcats, 106-74. The Magic outscored the Bobcats 50-24 in the second half, led by a 22-point, 12-rebound effort from Dwight Howard. Jameer Nelson also had a big night, scoring 20 points, while Hedo Turkoglu added 14. Orlando plays at home again on Sunday when they take on Boston.

After jumping out to an early 13 point lead, the Magic faltered a bit at the end of the first quarter and entered the second quarter with a six point lead. The team held a six-point lead heading into halftime, but really opened things up at the end of the third quarter. As Charlotte went scoreless for almost an eight minute stretch, the Magic took advantage and dominated the final 15 minutes of the game.

Howard, who recorded yet another double double, hit his first career NBA three-pointer in dramatic fashion. With just 1.6 seconds on the clock before halftime, Hedo Turkoglu threw a quarterback-style pass down the court where Howard went up in the air for the ball, turned and drained the three at the top of the key. The team went into the half with the crowd estatic and Howard in what Coach Brian Hill called "amazement".

The Magic shot 57 percent from the game, include 9-of-15 from three-point range. Meanwhile, the Bobcats weren't nowhere as lucky - hitting just 29.1 percent for the game. It was the fourth time this season the Bobcats have been defeated by 30 or more points. Matt Carroll led Charlotte with 19 points. Starters Adam Morrison and Emeka Okafor combined for just 13 points on 5-of-21 shooting.

9:34PM: The Bobcats have been put out of their misery. Final score - Orlando Magic 106, Charlotte Bobcats 74.

9:31PM: I really don't know what to say other than, WOW! The Magic now lead by 33 points and everyone is getting into the scoring bloodbath against the Bobcats...Diener...Garrity...Redick. J.J. just hit another one and it's now a 35 point lead with 28.4 left!

9:28PM: Garrity just hit his second three pointer and the this one has gotten ugly in a hurry! It's now a 96-69 game with J.J. Redick at the free throw line shooting a pair. He's good on the first and the rookie hits the second as well and the Magic lead by 29 with less than three minutes left.

9:23PM: We're at the 5:33 mark and Battie just dunked in a pass from Trevor to bring Orlando's lead back to 20, 89-69. Just a matter of time now, folks!

9:17PM: Melvin Ely finally ends the field goal drough at the 8:13 mark, but the Magic lead is still 19, 82-63. And look out, they are getting hot now as Carroll swishes a three.

9:12PM: Hedo Turkoglu gets to the free throw line via the Matt Carroll Expressway and hits 1-of-2 to make it a 20 point Orlando lead. Sean May finally ends the Bobcats scoring drought by hitting 1-of-2 free throws. They still haven't hit a field goal since the 4:02 mark in the third quarter.

9:09PM: If I can borrow the popular southern expression, Charlotte "can't hit the broadside of a barn" right now. They've scored a whopping 10 points in the 14 minutes played in the second half and a four-point deficit has now grown to 19. They are shooting themselves all the way to the airport and outta Orlando. That Bobcat shooting percentage right now looks more like an NFL team that has scored four touchdowns - a grand 28.6 percent.

9:07PM: Orlando opens the fourth with a three-point play as Howard is fouled while making a layup and hits the free throw. He is then fouled on the next possession and again goes to the line where he hits 1-of-2 and now has 22 points to go along with 11 rebounds. Orlando leads, 77-60.

9:01PM: Magic finish out the quarter on a positive note as a jumper by Hedo and another three by Jameer allow them to tie their largest lead of the night at 13, 73-60. And that's the end of three quarters.

8:57PM: Ariza with a giant thunder dunk that got half the crowd on their feet. He went up in traffic and threw it all up in Okafor's face! Wow! Magic lead is now eight, 68-60, with 2:15 in the third.

8:53PM: Jameer continuing to play very well. After his big game against the Clippers, Nelson has followed that up with a 17 point effort so far on 7-of-12 shooting. The Magic hold steady with that six-point lead, 66-60, with 2:54 remaining in the third.

8:50PM: Great timeout action here in Orlando. Stuff just came out on court and challenged boxing great Felix Trinidad to a round. Felix accepted the challenge and it only took a few punches for Trinidad to knockout the Magic Mascot. So on the year, Stuff has lost to both a boxing kangaroo and Felix Trinidad. If Mike Tyson wasn't in legal trouble, he may be next!

8:44PM: Five minutes into the third quarter and the Magic have a six-point lead, 60-54. Dwight leads all scorers with 16 points, while Jameer has 13. In the Dwight vs. Emeka contest, it's very lopsided so far with Dwight adding eight rebounds to his 16 points, while Okafor has only five points and four rebounds in 18 minutes of action. Brezec is having a better game than Emeka. He's got nine points and 11 rebounds.

8:34PM: Just a follow up from the first half. That three-pointer at the buzzer was the very first of Dwight Howard's professional career...and maybe ever! Do you think he ever hit one in high school? Second half now underway.

8:19PM: Unbelievable finish to the first half! With 1.7 seconds left until halftime. The Magic have the ball and Turkoglu throws it three-quarters of the way where Dwight goes up to get it, turns and hits a three-pointer at the buzzer! Halftime is here and the Magic head back to the locker room holding a six-point lead. Be back for the second half - right after this commercial break!

8:15PM: With 1:05 left in the first half, Trevor is fouled and goes to the line. He hits both to give Orlando a six-point lead, 51-45. But Matt Carroll subtracts half of that lead with another three. That gives him a team-high 13 points for Charlotte.

8:09PM: Just got word that Darko Milicic has a strained right mid foot and is questionable for a return tonight.

8:06PM: Trevor Ariza fouls Derek Anderson on a fastbreak and Anderson hits both free throws to tie the game. But the Magic don't waste much time without the lead as Outlaw tips back a Turkoglu miss and a Magic steal leads to a two from Ariza. Orlando now leads, 49-45, with 2:43 until the half.

8:02PM: Something you don't see very often, Dwight Howard hitting a jumpshot! Nice, very nice! The team follows that up with a steal and Arroyo finishes at the other end and increase the lead to six. But Felton hits another three to once again make it a one-possession game at 45-42 with 4:30 remaining until halftime.

7:57PM: Brezec hits a pair of free throws and the Bobcats have made this a one-possession game, 40-38. Outlaw is fouled and goes to the charity stripe. The first one bounces off the front of the rim, but he makes the second. Charlotte takes the ball down the floor and has a chance to tie the game, but Derek Anderson's three doesn't fall. Timeout on the floor with the Magic winning, 41-38 with 5:52 remaining in the first half.

7:54PM: Charlotte moved within three, but back-to-back buckets by Trevor Ariza have enabled Orlando to move ahead by seven. However, a three-pointer by Raymond Felton makes it a four-point game.

7:47PM: The Magic have had a few poor offensive possessions and Coach Hill just signaled for timeout to discuss. The 10 point lead has slipped to only five, 36-31.

7:39PM: End of the first quarter and the Magic have a 33-27 lead.

7:36PM: Dwight Howard just slammed down his third dunk of the night and now has 10 points as the Magic lead is still nine with 1:32 remaining. J.J. Redick, Trevor Ariza and Darko Milicic have checked into the game and are now on the court with Dwight and Jameer.

7:32PM: Three-a-Palooza here in Orlando as the Magic are now 4-for-4 beyond the arc after Hedo hits on his first three of the night. The Magic have a 10 point lead at 29-19.

7:23PM: Orlando is 3-for-3 from three-point range (Nelson 2, Bogans 1) and now lead the Bobcats, 18-11. The Magic have hit six of their first seven shots, while Charlotte has only connected on 5-of-13.

7:19PM: Jameer Nelson has two threes and a layup for eight of Orlando's first 10 points as the Magic lead, 10-6.

7:13PM: Tipoff time and the first two picks of the 2004 NBA Draft will meet at center court. Dwight vs. Emeka and the tip goes to...the Magic. First Orlando possession, inside to Dwight, back out to Bogans who finds Jameer open for a three and it's good! Magic 3, Bobcats 0. Charlotte's first trip comes up short as Felton's jumper bounces off the rim.

7:05PM: Starting lineups: For Charlotte - Adam Morrison, Emeka Okafor, Primoz Brezec, Derek Anderson, Raymond Felton. And for the Magic - Hedo Turkoglu, Tony Battie, Dwight Howard, Jameer Nelson and Keith Bogans - filling in for the injured Grant Hill. Tipoff about seven minutes away.

6:59PM: Hello Magic fans and welcome to tonight's game as the Magic take on the Charlotte Bobcats. The inactives for tonight are as follows. The Magic will once again sit out Grant Hill (sore foot) and Keyon Dooling (left Achilles), while James Augustine will also be inactive. Pat Garrity was activated by the Magic right before the game. For the Bobcats, Gerald Wallace (back), Brevin Knight (plantar fasciitis) and Ryan Hollins will not suit up for tonight's contest. Starting lineups coming up next.

Pre-Game Preview:
For the third time already this season, the Charlotte Bobcats and Orlando Magic will meet in an NBA game. And for all those who deem the Oct. 10 preseason game part of the "season", this will be meeting number four.

It's always interesting when these two teams play one another, and not because they are Southeast Division counterparts. The storylines play a big part in why a Charlotte vs. Orlando matchup is so compelling. It's Dwight vs. Emeka - the 2004 No. 1 vs. the 2004 No. 2. It's J.J. vs. Adam - the sweethearts of the 2005-06 NCAA season on the court and against one another. It's Matt Carroll guarding Keith Bogans. Okay, well that's not so compelling, but you get the drift.

While Orlando is 19-14 and the Bobcats are struggled out to a 9-22 mark, don't let Charlotte's record deceive you. They've played a lot of close games this season, but have struggled to a 3-11 record away from Charlotte Bobcats Arena.

The Magic are winners of two in a row, getting a 29-point blowout decision against the Miami Heat, followed by a second half comeback victory to kick off the New Year against the Los Angeles Clippers. Orlando is just one win away from 20 wins on the season - a feat it wasn't able to achieve last season until the month of February. They are also still in the thick of things at the top of the Eastern Conference - right in the mix with Detroit, Cleveland, Chicago and Washington.

Orlando Magic Head Coach Brian Hill:
“That wasn’t a very artistic game but it was a good win and I wasn’t very pleased with our offensive production all night long other than the way we shot. I feel our defense after the first quarter was pretty darn good and almost exceptional in the second half. Our offense could have been better in the third quarter it would have made things a lot easier but to hold them to 10 and 14 in the last two quarters was a great job by our guys. I thought Tony Battie did an outstanding job on the glass and offensively and Dwight took the challenge defensively. The guys we had to stop we stopped, Shaun May, Okafor, and Raymond Felton. Matt Carroll got loose and got some looks to the basket, basically all they were getting was jump shots, so we can live with that.”

On keeping Dwight shooting inside the paint
“It won’t be hard he won’t want to ruin his percentage for the rest of the year. He’ll want to stay at 1,000 percent from the three point line, so I think we can convince him to stay inside.”

On having quick centers
“It makes it a lot easier but it can also give the other guys a false sense of security that they don’t have to work as hard and can just let guys go to the basket. Because every time he comes to block a shot he opening up his guy and that’s where your team defense comes in and you have to help each other. It’s a great option to have guys like Dwight and Darko in there and can run to block shots.”

On the Magic’s winning streak
“I’m happy we came out of that tailspin. Washington game we had every opportunity to win and now we’ve won three straight since then, Sunday’s game will be a big game for us before we get to the road. If we can win Sunday’s game that will give us four games out of this set of five and give us a little momentum going out to the west coast. It’s nice to be the first team in the east with 20 wins, we’ll take that and see if we can just keep getting better.”

On the health of Keyon Dooling and Grant Hill
“I would say based on today’s workouts, Grant is probably is closer to coming back than Keyon is. I think Keyon is still nursing the Achilles a little bit. Grant should be cleared to practice and take contact tomorrow. He felt good today, we’ll see how he handles practice tomorrow, I think he’ll be back for Sunday’s game.”

On Dwight being on the All-Star team
“Dwight belongs on the All-Star team. Is he the best center in the east? Shaq hasn’t played so I think its very hard to compare the two of the them and say that one is better than the other when he really hasn’t played all year long. There’s no question in my mind that he belongs on the All-Star team whether it’s the fans vote or coaches placing him on there, he defiantly deserves that honor this year.”

Orlando Magic Guard Jameer Nelson:
“Earlier in the year, we weren’t a good third quarter team and I think we wanted to change that as a unit. We’ve been getting stops and holding teams to lower amounts than they’re used to. I think the team is taking pride in their defense right now. People talk about how we have a lot of scorers. We’ve got a lot of guys helping each other right now. And that’s one of the keys to our success right now.”

“Once you’ve got a team down, you don’t want to let them back. We knew this team is a tough team to play because they’re the type of team that’s going to play hard, the type of team that’s going to play the same way no matter hard. We just go out and play basketball.”

(On giving Dwight pointers on 3 pt. shots)
“It was all him. He gets all the credit for shooting that three because if he would have missed it, I wouldn’t have taken credit for that.”

Orlando Magic Guard Carlos Arroyo:
“I felt comfortable tonight; it was a matter of time. It’s something to stay positive through and things are going to fall in place. We’ve got to go out there and keep playing hard.”

“Obviously we come in here and watch film and we understand what we have to work on in the second half. We get better out there and it helps our chance at winning. We see where we need to get better at halftime and we understand that it’s two halves. In the second half, we have to take advantage of what we do when we come in here and going out there and following the game plan and getting better.”

(Any extra pressure on bobblehead night?) “No it was one of those nights. Little by little, I’ll go back to playing my game. It’s special though, the bobblehead, I am truly grateful to the franchise to do those kind of things to me and I am always going to be truly grateful.”

Orlando Magic Guard Trevor Ariza:
“We see what we’re doing wrong in the first half. We come in here and correct it, watch film on it to see what we have to do to turn it up, to get better at it.”

(On his dunk)
“Well the lane just kind of opened up. (Okafor) kind of got there late and I had a step on him.”

“In the first half, we kind of slacked off a little bit. Coach was on us about that and we had to bring the intensity in the second half.”

“They kind of weren’t shooting the ball well. But we had to do what we do to get the win.”

Charlotte Bobcats Head Coach Bernie Bickertstaff:
On the loss:
“24 points isn’t going to get it done. Not in a half. And we really kind of gave in to it and I thought we really played soft when the shots weren’t going in. That’s not our character. If you score 24 points in the second half, that won’t get it. I think we were six down at the end of the half shooting 34%, that won’t win.”

On the shots they were taking:
”We had some pretty good shots. I thought down inside there were key situations where we have to learn that Matt (Carroll) had the hot hand. He was 5 for 8 and 3-of-4 from the three point line, had just made a shot, and then we took the ball and he was open in the corner and somebody else took the shot instead of passing it to the one guy who was making shots in those situations.”

On Dwight Howard’s performance:
“He had a pretty good performance. That’s what he’s supposed to do.”

On defending the Magic:
“Jameer (Nelson) made a big difference for them and Dwight is so active. Primoz (Brezec) had nine rebounds in the first half, Primoz was getting after it. But it’s just so long that you can contain Dwight. Dwight has an assortment of ways to get his stuff especially offensive rebounds. They’re a good basketball team. If they get (Grant) Hill back and he’s healthy, they’re going to create some problems.”

Charlotte Bobcats Forward Sean May:
“In the first half, we shot poorly but we were still in it. The only person that made any shots tonight was Matt Carroll on a consistent basis. I think we had one game earlier this season where the whole team played bad. You hate to play like that especially against a team you feel you match up well against.”

“Tonight every time I caught the ball, I knew they would send Jameer or a guard to double which they didn’t do last time. I just didn’t knock down shots. I missed five or six jump shots in the first half and didn’t help the case in the second. I played poorly and our team played poorly. We have a little time to correct things and go to work at practice.”

“We have to think about this but not dwell on this too long. We have four games of practice which is going to help this team. Guys are still banged up and Jeff (McInnis) is just coming in. We have to get guys healthy.”

“It is tough. He (Gerald Wallace) is our energy guy. That is where we stem from his play…his leadership on how he plays and how he puts his body on the line. Not having him out there is an adjustment and hopefully he won’t be out too long.”

“Anytime as a big you pick up two quick ones (fouls) you become more hesitant and more tentative. I think it just set the tone for him the rest of the game. Everybody knows that is not how he normally plays like. He always wants to play well especially with this rivalry him and Dwight have going. It wasn’t his night and he can’t dwell on it.”

Charlotte Bobcats Forward Matt Carroll:
“They made some adjustments and played tough defense. They were rotating and doubling down in the post. They made us take quick shots in the second half. We didn’t put up much of a fight in the second half.”

“I don’t think it was energy. They were playing hard and we were playing hard. In the second half we just weren’t making shots. I thought their defense really picked up their intensity a little bit. We really didn’t know what shots we were going to get. They took away the post and rushed out to our shooters a lot.”

“When you lose that badly it is embarrassing. This one hurt. We see that they are beating us and they are kind of laughing at the end of the game. That is embarrassing for any professional team. We are better than how we played. It just makes you mad.”

“I could’ve guessed that was his (Howard’s) first career three pointer. When he hit it I said to myself that it has got to be his first three. That was just an unbelievable fluke play. They designed it up and that was a heck-u-va play by the coach and for him to make that shot was even better.”
