ORLANDO – The Orlando Magic will unveil the dazzling, new Amway Center to Central Florida fans and the basketball world on Oct. 28 in the regular-season opener against the Washington Wizards.
TNT will televise the game nationally between the Magic, Eastern Conference Finalists last season, and the Wizards, who picked electric point guard John Wall with the first overall selection in the NBA Draft back in June.
The night will feature the much-anticipated debut of the Amway Center, a state-of-the-art, $380 million facility in downtown Orlando. The 875,000-square-foot building will seat 18,500 for NBA games, has 60 suites, 1,400 club seats, seven concourse levels and 37 restrooms. It also features the largest video replay board in any NBA arena.
A night after their opener against Wall and the Wizards, the Magic will participate in another massive unveiling of sorts. The Magic will play in Miami against the reconfigured Heat on Oct. 29 – the first regular-season meeting between the two Sunshine State rivals and Miami’s home debut. The Heat, who open the regular season in Boston, have been the talk of the NBA this offseason after signing LeBron James and Chris Bosh and retaining star guard Dwyane Wade.
The NBA released portions of its schedule on Tuesday, and the complete schedule will be released next Tuesday. Check back to Orlandomagic.com for full coverage of the schedule’s release.
The Magic will also make a national television appearance on Christmas Day for a third consecutive season. Orlando will host the Boston Celtics on Christmas Day in the afternoon game before the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Lakers and Heat play later in the day. Orlando and Boston played on Christmas last season as well.
The Magic and Celtics, who met in the East Finals last May, will meet again on Jan. 17 as part of the NBA’s Martin Luther King Day celebration. The game will be played at Boston’s TD Garden and will be televised nationally by TNT.
The Magic have already exceeded 14,000 in season tickets and hope to hit 15,000 by the Oct. 28 season-opener against the Wizards. The first official game inside the Amway Center expects to be one of the toughest tickets in the history of Central Florida sports.
Fans can guarantee themselves a seat for the unveiling of the new arena by purchasing full or partial season-ticket packages. To order those tickets, call 407-89-MAGIC. There will be 2,500 seats priced at $15 or less and 7,000 seats priced at $25 or less. Single-game tickets will go on sale in October.
