ORLANDO – Magic rookie Victor Oladipo said he was over being star struck by other NBA players for the most part, but some future Hall of Famers such as Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce caused him to pause last Sunday night. Another all-star player at the top of Oladipo’s list is Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul, his opponent for Wednesday night. Oladipo said he’s met Paul a couple of times before and the all-star point guard has given him advice on being a great player in the NBA. Still, Oladipo said it would be an honor guarding a player who he has looked up to for years.
``I admire everything about him,’’ Paul said of Oladipo. ``He’s like a general out there on the floor in how he keeps everybody in the right places. He gets to his spots on the floor easily. And he’s able to get others involved and stay aggressive at the same time. I’ve been watching him throughout the years and admiring him.’’
In Oladipo’s first five games he’s faced three all-stars – Brooklyn’s Deron Williams, New Orleans’ Jrue Holiday and Paul – and two other elite players in Indiana’s George Hill and Minnesota’s Ricky Rubio. Oladipo knows that he has to be ready for a battle every night because of the NBA’s depth at point guard.
``At this position you play against all-stars every night, night-in and night-out,’’ he said. ``In college it wasn’t like that and in the NBA you have to be on top of your game every night. The learning process is 82 games – way more than college – and you just have to keep learning and stay prepared.’’
