Solid defensively all preseason and coming off their finest effort on Sunday, the Orlando Magic were eager to test their mettle against a San Antonio Spurs team already in midseason form.
After Tuesday night’s demolition by the Spurs – one that included a 71-point first half by San Antonio – the Magic clearly have plenty of work to do over the next week before the regular-season opener.
Orlando, sixth in the NBA this preseason in defensive field goal percentage, got carved up in the first half to the tune of 71 points and a 25-point deficit. The Magic did make some strides in the second half, but by then it was too late for them to salvage the night in a 123-101 loss to the Spurs.
