Solomon Jones is an eight-year NBA veteran, so he’s been through the highs and lows of cut down day several times before. But this time around, he stressed, was so much different, especially since it involved the Orlando Magic, the team that he rooted for as a child while growing up in nearby Mount Dora.

When Jones got word late Friday night that he had made the Magic’s Opening Night roster, he celebrated in the most organic and genuine way possible. He placed a call to his mother, Uzeria Jones, and the heartfelt emotion spilled out through his most basic of words.

``Momma I made it,’’ Solomon said over the phone just minutes after Magic General Manager Rob Hennigan instructed him that he would be on Orlando’s roster.

Jones had played for six teams over the past eight seasons, but this moment was indeed special to him because it meant that his family members and friends in Central Florida could enjoy the ride with him and he would be able to have his own mini-cheering section at the Amway Center on game nights.
