GAME RECAP
It may not have been quite as memorable or breathtaking as that 48-point performance last season against New Orleans, but Vince Carter’s effort against Indiana on Friday was certainly something to chat about.
Carter erupted for 25 points – burying 8-of-11 shots from the field and 6-of-8 from 3-point range – in 19 minutes as the Orlando Magic defeated the Pacers, 93-86, in an exhibition.
Dwight Howard, although struggling shooting the ball (2-of-8 from the floor and 6-of-14 from the free throw line), collected a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Ryan Anderson, meanwhile, grabbed an extraordinary 16 rebounds.
With Rashard Lewis starting at the small forward position, Brandon Bass earned the opportunity to start at the power forward spot. He thoroughly took advantage of it.
Bass posted nine points, seven rebounds and three blocks in 19 minutes. He slammed home two thunderous dunks in back-to-back possessions in the second quarter.
Marcin Gortat, J.J. Redick and Daniel Orton all did not play for the Magic.
Orlando has won 16 straight preseason games and will go for 17 consecutive victories when it hosts New Orleans on Sunday in the first game ever at Amway Center.
Darren Collison, who the Pacers acquired during the summer in a blockbuster four-team trade, led Indiana with 18 points.
