Pachulia was selected by the Orlando Magic with the 42nd overall pick. In this his rookie season, Pachulia has appeared in 55 of the Magic's first 59 games averaging 3.5 points and 3 rebounds in each outing.
An immediate crowd favorite, Pachulia is the youngest player ever to wear a Magic uniform. A former model, Zaza lives in Orlando with his mother, a former basketball player herself.
Zaza checked into the chat room on March 4 at 3 p.m. ET for the live chat! See what he had to say:
Seattle: Zaza, as young as you are, has Tracy McGrady given you any tips to adjust to the league at such a young age?
Zaza Pachulia: Yes, he is a great teammate and a great leader and he is helping me very much. He has experience coming into the league as a young player and adjusting and he helps me with that, as does Juwann Howard and other players.
Tavares : ZaZa what do you thank the biggest difference is between basketball here in the states rather than over seas.
Zaza Pachulia: There is many differences. Here in the NBA it is more professional. There are more fans, and the basketball is much more beautiful and of course, here there is more money! (Laughing) Obviously the best players in the world are in the NBA, so the games are much better here.
Krista; Merritt Island: Zaza, You played really great against Shaq that past game. Were you really intimidated? Also, you've had a good season with the Magic. Do you see yourself staying with them long term?
Zaza Pachulia: If you are scared of something, you can't compete correctly. Shaq is the best big man in the league, so it is always a challenge, but I don't get scared. He is very strong and very good and I just try my best to defend him. I just try my best.
Orlando: How Do you think getting DeShawn Stevenson and Sean Rooks Will help the Magic?
Zaza Pachulia: We hope it can help us in the future. We are competing a little better since the trade, even though we've had some tough losses in OT, we are starting to really compete. So I hope it will work out well.
channel islands uk: Zaza, after playing in turkey how did you become noticed and who noticed you?. How long did it then take for you to reach the nba and start playing?.
Zaza Pachulia: In Turkey I was playing in the Euroleague, which is the most interesting league after the NBA. So, some NBA scouts came and watched me play in the Euroleague and that's how I got noticed. The talent I had, could not be hidden! (Laughing)
Melih (Istanbul): Who's gonna win the Euroleague Cup ?
Zaza Pachulia: It's an interesting question, but there are several teams who have a chance. The Final Four will be in Isreal, so the team from Tel Aviv will have a good chance. The fans in Tel Aviv are great fans, they are crazy so that team will be tough to beat. It's great to be an international player and to get these questions from around the world. Thanks for asking.
Jonathan (Tampa): Where do you like to hang out in Orlando during your free time?
Zaza Pachulia: I hang out with my friends. I try to do something besides basketball. I try to think about other things, and enjoy the time away from the court with my friends.
Jamal (Pittsfield): Who is the hardest player for you to guard?
Zaza Pachulia: Shaq. Even if you play good defense, he is too tough.
Derek (Apopka): What is the most challenging aspect of adjusting to life in the U.S.?
Zaza Pachulia: The toughest thing was dealing with the different culture. I had no friends and didn't know anybody. You can meet people, but to become good friends is a difficult thing to do.
Deltona: What do you think the strongest point of your game is? What do you think you need to work on the most?
Zaza Pachulia: I think I can run the floor and hustle, that would be something I can do, but I wouldn't call it a strength. This is my first year in the league, so even that, I need to keep working on. I'm only 20, so I need to improve in every part of the game.
Tom, London: hey zaza i wanted to know if you had any advice for other european players trying to make it into the NBA
Zaza Pachulia: The only thing I can say, is that you need to play your best and compete and excel. I can't help any better than that. Maybe if I was a GM. You need to go out on the floor and do it.
murat turkey : We love you ZAZA.Ýn turkey we are very intersting about your stats.Good luck.Do you miss Turkey?
Zaza Pachulia: I miss it very, very much. Too much. I miss the fans, the people. Istanbul is the greatest city in Europe and I will definitely be going back there soon!
Balazs (Sebastian): I just wanted to know how old you were when you first started playing basketball? Also, what made you start playing? Keep up the good work!
Zaza Pachulia: I was nine years old when I started playing. My mom was interested in it, and I would watch games and that is what got me involved. Of course, I had great talent too (Laughing).
Zaza Pachulia: I'd like to thank everyone who came to chat with me today, and all of the great fans in Orlando who have been supporting me and the Magic.
