ORLANDO – In conjunction with National School Lunch Week, the Orlando Magic and Orange County Public Schools unveiled the Orlando Magic Food Cart at Boone High School on Thursday morning.

Orlando Magic Community Ambassadors Nick Anderson and Bo Outlaw distributed nutritious lunch options to Boone High School students. Together with OCPS and Food & Nutrition Services, the Magic helped to introduce a new healthy and nutritious lunch menu.

“We’re real excited to have the Magic here today promoting our school lunch program and working with the Food and Nutrition Services Department,” Boone High School Principal Margret McMillen said. “We want all of our students here at the high school to understand the importance of eating right; a student that has a good breakfast and lunch is better prepared to do well in school both academically and physically.”

The unveiling of the new menu is part of the Magic’s “BE Healthy” campaign and aligns with one of the Magic’s focus areas of health and wellness. The menu features a variety of fruits and vegetables and larger salads while eliminating fried foods and non-nutritious drinks.

As part of All-Star Lunch Week, OCPS is serving Orlando Magic-themed menu entrees with options including: Carter’s Cheesesteak-Stuffed Pockets, JJ’s BBQ Chicken, Van Gundy’s Swedish Meatballs with Fettuccini Noodles, Dwight’s Popcorn Chicken Mashed Potato Bowl and STUFF’S Spicy Asian Chicken.

“We have a lot of different choices for students,” McMillen said. “Our students are used to going to food courts and fast food opportunities, so they expect a variety and that’s what we are trying to provide. We have hot lunches; we usually have things like salads and different kinds of juices, snacks and whole wheat opportunities. We are looking much more at the nutritional value of food choices that we provide.”
