English Chat Transcript: Carlos Arroyo

When Carlos Arroyo was traded to the city with the second-highest Puerto Rican population in the United States, he knew he was in for a treat. So when Arroyo made his debut in Orlando wearing a Magic uniform on Feb. 24, he was welcomed to a thunderous ovation from a crowd that included more than a dozen Puerto Rican flags.

Arroyo came to the Magic on February 15 as part of the package that included Darko Milicic in exchange for Kelvin Cato and a future protected first round draft pick. Within hours of the trade announcement, fans were already scrambling to be the first to purchase their Arroyo Magic jerseys and tickets to see Carlos in action. From a playing perspective, Arroyo hasn't disappointed his new team or new fan base. The fifth-year point guard has averaged 12.3 points per game, including a season-high 21 points against Phoenix on March 3.

On Thursday, March 16, Carlos sat down and chatted on orlandomagic.com about his new home in Orlando and other questions from his large fan base. Check out what Carlos had to say.

Blake Levison: Hey Carlos I was wondering what is your thoughts on the new found crowd the magic is attracting due to your nationality?

Carlos Arroyo: Hopefully it's very good. It's great that the Hispanic community is supporting the team. It's a great boost of energy for the team.

Daniel NY: hey Carlos, I wanted to know, how does having a player like Dwight Howard change your game?

Carlos Arroyo: It makes my job a lot easier. When you have an athletic big man that can do so many things, it makes my job as a point guard so much easier.

Carlos Arroyo: My idol growing up was Michael Jordan.

Letrina.Net: Has there been a Greater Satisfaction in your career than the historic win the Puertorrican team had over the U.S.A in the 2004 Olympics?

Carlos Arroyo: It was a great satisfaction, but the greatest moment of my career was carrying the flag in the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games.

Ian(Miami): In all your time in the NBA what was the best experience you have had playing?

Carlos Arroyo: In my career, it would be hitting the winning shot when I was in Utah against Denver.

matt(orlando): Carlos, what do you do to get ready for a game?

Carlos Arroyo: I go to shootaround. After that I take a nap and wake up about an hour before I have to go to the arena. Then I warm up, concentrate and watch some film before the game.

new jersey: how does it feel to be traded from a championship contender team to a team that might not make the playoffs this year?

Carlos Arroyo: I would say the biggest thing was we were winning a lot in Detroit. It's not quite the same here, but I feel great because I wanted to play. I've always wanted to get minutes and get experience to develop my game. It's also exciting to be part of this team with all the young players. I'm excited to be here.

Jose E. Perez Jr. (Orlando): Who is the most intense player on the Magic in practice?

Carlos Arroyo: Bo Outlaw. He's very energetic and always hustling on every play.

Carlos Arroyo: We will see how we finish the season. I think we are adapting to each other every day and that will help going into next season. The chemistry is falling into place right now.
