Sixteen NBA Teams to Compete July 6-15

Vegas Summer League Set For Second Season

February 14, 2005

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The 2005 Vegas Summer League (VSL) will take place July 6-15 at the COX Pavilion on the UNLV campus, VSL officials announced today.

Building on the success of last year’s six-team event, 16 NBA squads will compete this summer, making Las Vegas the premiere NBA summer league venue of 2005.

Teams slated to appear in Vegas this summer include the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Clippers, New Orleans Hornets, Denver Nuggets, Golden State Warriors, Orlando Magic, Sacramento Kings, Dallas Mavericks, Chicago Bulls, New Jersey Nets, Phoenix Suns, Washington Wizards, Detroit Pistons, Cleveland Cavaliers, New York Knicks and Portland Trailblazers.

“We are thrilled to bring the NBA back to Las Vegas this summer,” said VSL Executive Director, Warren LeGarie. “The response after last year’s event was overwhelmingly positive, and I think that’s reflected in the jump we’ve seen from six to 16 teams. We have a tremendous lineup of teams confirmed for this summer with affordable ticket prices, which we believe will be very attractive to all NBA fans, especially in the Las Vegas area.”

This year’s format features a 43-game schedule over a 10-day span. NBA TV has signed on to broadcast a select number of VSL games, with the schedule to be determined.

In addition, the NBA Fan Jam will make its first-ever appearance in Las Vegas July 8-10, in conjunction with the 10-year anniversary campaign of this interactive NBA experience.

The Las Vegas community will also play a bigger role in the VSL this season, with activities planned through the Las Vegas Parks and Recreation Department, YMCA and select youth boys and girls basketball programs.

“This is an outstanding opportunity for the city of Las Vegas to take in NBA basketball in a professional and fun filled environment,” said Washington Wizards general manager Ernie Grunfeld. “What they pulled off last year was first class and with 16 teams represented, we expect larger crowds and great games for the fans to enjoy.”

Tickets will be available soon by calling (702) 739-FANS or online at www.unlvtickets.com.
