Valentine’s Day: Love & Basketball

Most people don’t think of athletes as romantics. We don’t tend to associate them with being chivalrous, gentle, sentimental, or loving. But there is love and basketball. And Magic players Tony Battie, Pat Garrity, Hedo Turkoglu, Grant Hill, and Assistant Coach Clifford Ray share their Valentine’s ideas and what they would like to receive.

A good Valentine’s gift idea…

“I always think of the spa treatment followed by a little dinner as a good gift. Whatever you do, just put a little effort into it so that she can know you spent some time thinking about it.” – Pat Garrity

“Take some Lady Godiva chocolates & put a nice little gift in the middle of the chocolates, wrap it up and put a heart on it.” – Assistant Coach Clifford Ray

“You can’t go wrong with diamonds. But if that’s out of your price range, instead of just flowers, I would say flowers leading to…something romantic.” – Tony Battie

“If you have been in a long relationship a gift doesn’t matter. The important thing is to remember & go home with something. Not going home empty handed is the main thing for me.” – Hedo Turkoglu

“I guess I just think of me and my wife and jewelry is always something that goes over well. Women tend to like jewelry and gifts of that nature. For me, buying something for her from Victoria’s Secret is always nice.” (laughing) – Grant Hill

Something you would like to receive…

“I don’t need much, just a good meal.” – Pat Garrity

“A card from my son.” – Assistant Coach Clifford Ray

“I think it’s more of a woman’s thing than a guy thing so I would say, just a good meal or something like that is fine.” – Tony Battie

“[Another baby]…that would be nice for me.” – Grant Hill

“I don’t really care, some cologne or something. It doesn’t matter for me. Getting something for us, it’s easy. Getting something for her is the important thing.” – Hedo Turkoglu
