Turkoglu Suffers Fractured Left Wrist
Orlando, FL – Orlando Magic guard-forward Hedo Turkoglu (HEE-doh TURK-oh-lue) suffered a fractured distal radial head in his left wrist with 3:07 remaining in the fourth quarter on Mar. 21 @ Charlotte. He was re-examined by Magic team doctors on Tuesday morning and is expected to be out for the remainder of the regular season, with recovery time estimated at six to eight weeks.
Turkoglu (6’10”, 220, 3/19/79) had played in all 67 games for the Magic, averaging a career-high 14.0 ppg., 3.5 rpg. and 2.3 apg. in 26.2 minpg. He led the team in three-point field goal percentage, shooting .380 (93-245) from beyond the arc, and in free throw percentage (.836, 188-225). Turkoglu also started in 11 games, averaging 18.8 ppg., 4.5 rpg. and 2.7 apg. in 37.1 minpg.
Selected in the first round (16th overall) of the 2000 NBA Draft by Sacramento, Turkoglu has played in 368 regular season games during his NBA career with Sacramento, San Antonio and Orlando, averaging 9.0 ppg., 3.7 rpg. and 1.7 apg. in 22.3 minpg. and shooting .382 (314-821) from three-point range. He has also appeared in 44 career playoff contests, averaging 7.5 ppg., 4.2 rpg. and 1.4 apg. in 23.4 minpg. Turkoglu was named to the 2000-01 NBA All-Rookie Second Team.
Turkoglu is the first Turkish-born player in NBA history. He ranks fourth on Sacramento’s all-time list in three-point field goal percentage. Before entering the NBA, Turkoglu played four seasons with Efes Pilsen of the Turkish Professional League.
