Orlando, FL – Rodney White led all scorers with 21 points, as Detroit defeated New Orleans, 76-61, in the opening game of the 2002 Orlando Professional Summer League. Mehmet Okur recorded 15 points and a game-high eight rebounds for the Pistons, while David Vanterpool notched 11 points and a game-high-tying six assists.

Jerome Moiso led the way for the Hornets with 19 points. Saddi Washington had 11 points and six assists, while Kirk Haston chipped in with 10 points. New Orleans shot just 36.1 percent (22-of-61) from the floor.

Detroit (1-0) took a slim 19-17 edge after the opening stanza. Both teams struggled from the floor – New Orleans shot 40.0 percent, while Detroit shot 36.8 percent. White, the Pistons’ first round draft pick in 2001, netted eight points in the first quarter. Moiso went 3-of-4 from the field and had six points for New Orleans.

The Pistons opened the second quarter with an 8-0 run, capped off by a deep three-pointer from Tayshaun Prince, extending the lead to 27-17. Haston scored all of his 10 points in the second quarter for New Orleans (0-1), connecting on 4-of-5 from the field. However, the rest of the Hornets combined to shoot 1-for-10 and they trailed 39-34 at halftime.

Detroit took control of the contest in the third quarter, outscoring the Hornets, 23-13, and grabbed a commanding 62-47 lead. White and Brian Cardinal each had seven points in the frame for the Pistons, which shot 50.0 percent from the field in the period.

GAME #2 RECAP:

Orlando, FL – Rasual Butler poured in 24 points, while Sean Lampley added 19, as Miami defeated Milwaukee, 93-75, during the 2002 Orlando Professional Summer League. Mike James added 18 points for the Heat, while Malik Allen added 11. Milwaukee’s Ronald Murray led all scorers with 29 points on 11-of-20 shooting from the field. Marcus Haslip scored 15 points and Joel Pryzbilla pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.

Miami (1-0) opened the game with an 8-2 run. The Bucks would answer later in the frame with a run of their own. Mike Wilks nailed a 20-foot jumper with 2:10 left in the period, giving the Bucks a 15-12 lead and capping off a 10-0 run. The first quarter ended tied at 16.

The Heat began the second quarter with a 10-3 spurt and took a 26-19 lead after a free throw by Allen with 6:23 left in the first half. Miami shot 50 percent from the floor and outscored Milwaukee, 25-14, in the stanza. Lampley and Allen each had five points in the quarter, as the Heat took a 41-30 halftime lead.

Miami seemed to take control of the game in the third quarter, holding as much as a 20-point lead. Butler scored 14 points in the quarter for the Heat. Murray and Marcus Goree each netted eight points in the stanza for Milwaukee (0-1), but the Bucks trailed 67-51 heading into the fourth quarter.

In the final frame, the Bucks came out firing and opened with a 13-2 run. Murray finished under the basket with a layup and trimmed the deficit to 69-64 with 6:01 left in the contest. However, James netted 12 points in the quarter, including a long trifecta with less than two minutes remaining, to help seal the victory for the Heat.

Orlando, FL – If first impressions are everything, then rookie Ryan Humphrey left a good one with his new team. Humphrey scored 14 points, pulled down six rebounds and blocked two shots, as Orlando defeated Indiana, 79-64, during the 2002 Orlando Professional Summer League.

Jeryl Sasser led all scorers with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Cory Hightower added 11 for the Magic. Orlando outrebounded Indiana, 37-28, including 18-8 on the offensive glass. Billy Thomas led the Pacers with 12 points and first round draft pick Fred Jones added 11.

Olumide Oyedeji was a force inside for the Magic. He finished the game with a team-high-tying seven rebounds, two blocked shots and drew several charges. Oyedeji, a 6-10 power forward from Nigeria, played with Seattle last season.

Humphrey, who was acquired by the Magic on draft night, got off to a good start, scoring six points in the first quarter. Primoz Brezec had six points for Indiana (0-1) in the frame, but Orlando led 19-17. Oyedeji recorded five rebounds and two blocked shots in the quarter.

The second quarter was a back-and-forth affair. There were six lead changes and seven ties during the period. Orlando (1-0) pulled down 11 offensive rebounds in the first half, but shot just 37.8 percent from the floor. At halftime, the game was tied at 37.

The Magic shot 53.3 percent from the field in the third quarter and closed the frame with a 15-5 run. Humphrey scored six points in the stanza, helping Orlando grab a 59-50 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

In the final stanza, Sasser scored seven points and Jason Capel netted six points for the Magic, which outscored Indiana 20-14.
