Thoughts on being selected by the Magic:
“I feel that I had good workouts there, I enjoyed my time in Orlando, it was a beautiful city. They’re a team on the rise. They got Notre Dame guys there, which is great, and they got one of the young coaches whose going to be a great coach in the time to come.”
On being tabbed and “energy” guy:
“I play hard. I dive on the floor for loose balls. When I play, I play to win, I’m going to do whatever I have to do.”
On his workout against Amare Stoudemire impacting the Magic’s opinion of him:
“I don’t think there was one thing. They saw me in Chicago, then they brought me back in again. One thing that I thought that they saw was that I’m consistent. When I play, I play hard, I want to win.”
Playing with Tracy McGrady and fitting in with the Magic:
“Tracy’s going to take so much attention, he’s a great young player. As a matter of fact, we were supposed to be on the same McDonald’s All-American team in high school but he didn’t play because he advised not to. I looking forward to it (playing with him), I’ve never met Tracy, but I’ve seen him. He demands a lot of attention and I want to come help him.”
Has playing in the Big East prepared you for life in the NBA?:
“Yes. I feel it’s going to be a struggle day in and day out because of the road (trips), but I have guys there that have been through it. I know Steven Hunter, he lives in Chicago, I’ve been living in Chicago, so I’m excited about this team.”
Are you big enough to play power forward?:
“It doesn’t matter about the size. There’s a lot of undersized guys out there. I’m a guy who you put me out there and I’m going to try to make things happen.”
On being selected higher than he was being targeted:
“I went in with a chip on my shoulder. I know I was a good player, but no one really gave me credit. I said okay, fine. If they don’t want to give me credit, I’m going to have to go in there and do what I have to do and I just played hard. There’s a lot of guys out there who have skills, but they don’t play hard night in and night out, that’s one thing I try to do.”
Will you carry that chip on your shoulder into the season?:
“We’ll find out, I’m trying to. I still have things to prove.”
Who in the NBA now would you compare yourself too?:
“Malik Rose, Corliss Williamson, a guy like that who’s kind of undersized, but they play so hard that they get things done when they’re out there… Jerome Williams, guys like that.”
