Filling in for Ryan Humphrey with today’s journal entry is a fellow Notre Dame alumnus, Pat Garrity:
It feels good to have another Notre Dame player here. It’s not enough though to be from Notre Dame, you still have to be a good guy, and Ryan Humphrey is one of the best. He is out there giving it his all. He’s feeling it a little bit, don’t get me wrong! He’s banged up and bruised, but he’s still got a smile on his face the whole time. That’s what I really love about him.
We talk about the University of Notre Dame a lot. Ryan was there during the good times of Irish basketball, and he got to go to the NCAA Tournament. Sometimes it’s more me asking him about what they had going, instead of vice versa. We talk about the football team – everyone that went to school there is definitely a Notre Dame football fan this year!
I know he thinks the NBA game is really fast right now, but as he gets more experience, the more he will know where he is supposed to be. If he continues to work and follow the rules that we have, the more it will slow down for him.
Ryan brings a ton of energy to the court and he really has a nose for the ball. That is something that I am just convinced is a gift and he has that. He has the ability to always be in the right place to get his hands on the ball and get to loose balls. That’s all he will have to do. Hustle, grab loose balls, finish plays and shoot free throws. Ryan’s been doing all of those things during this camp.
