Magic Players to partner with Lift Up America and distribute food and toys

Orlando Magic to ’Lift Up America’

As part of the Orlando Magic’s commitment to the community efforts, Magic players Travis Diener and Terence Morris, Community Ambassador Dee Brown, Stuff the Magic mascot, the Magic dancers and Magic employees will team-up with Lift Up America for week-long community aid.

Tuesday, December 6, 9:00 – 10:00 a.m., LensCrafters Hometown Day. As part of LensCrafters Gift of Sight program the Magic’s Community Ambassador Dee Brown, Magic dancers and Stuff the Magic mascot will visit a local LensCrafters (1415 State Rd. 436 in the Casselberry Commons) where 27 children, who have been pre-screened, will receive eye exams and free eyeglasses.

Wednesday, December 7 @ the Magic vs. Bulls game. The Magic will be collecting eyeglasses at the TD Waterhouse Centre (600 W. Amelia St., Orlando, 32801) outside the north, south and VIP entrances. The Orlando Magic is asking fans to support the Give The Gift of Sight program by donating used eyeglasses at the Magic vs. Bulls game on Wednesday, December 7th. Volunteers will be located outside the north and south entrances from 6-7 p.m. and you can also donate at the Fan Relations booth located on the concourse.

Give the Gift of Sight, a charitable foundation affiliated with LensCrafters and Pearle Vision, has helped more than four million people since 1988 by delivering free eye care and prescription glasses to people in need around the world.

Thursday, December 8, 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. outside the TD Waterhouse Centre, Lot 3. Magic players Travis Diener and Terence Morris, Stuff the Magic Mascot, the Magic dancers and Magic employees will partner with Lift Up America to distribute 36,000 lbs. of Tyson chicken, 12,000 Beanie Babies and hundreds of vouchers for free eye exams at a local LensCrafters or Pearle Vision to less fortunate families through local agencies. The families have been pre-selected through local non-profit agencies to address those who are most in need.

The event will be in conjunction with 25 Lift Up America events in major cities across the nation during the week of December 5, 2005. With the help of more than 500 agencies and 25 sports teams, Lift Up America will be bringing needed gifts and compassion to thousands of families nationwide.

Lift Up America is a non-profit organization partnering with business leaders, pro sports owners, and athletic directors developing creative ways to provide compassionate aid throughout America. This year, the team consists of Tyson Foods, LensCrafters, Pearle Vision and the Give the Gift of Sight Foundation and Ty.

The Orlando Magic is committed to the community. Over the last 16 years, more than $12 million has been distributed to local non-profit organizations via the Orlando Magic Youth Foundation, a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation. Annually, Orlando Magic community relations efforts impact 75,000 kids.
