Orlando Magic "Pays it forward" on Christmas Day

The Orlando Magic celebrated Christmas in a BIG way surprising the Crumitie family during the Magic vs. Hornets match-up on Christmas day.

The Magic showered the foursome with gifts and other items to assist them through difficult times. To keep it all a surprise, the Crumitie family was invited to the game as the “Magic family” for the afternoon. At halftime the revelation occurred, they were given a $12,500 check from the Magic, Magic President Bob Vander Weide and the Orlando Magic Youth Fund; Warner Brothers donated $500 to the family for each Dwight Howard dunk (minimum of $2,000) along with toys, bikes, clothes and other gifts.

The entire day was an experience to remember as a town car picked up and took home the family from the game; they had dinner in the Cannon Club; sat in courtside seats and met Magic players. Ophthalmologists in Central Florida also agreed to provide treatment for three-year-old Jadin’s eye condition.

Jadin is in need of eye surgery to correct the congenital ptosis in his left eye. This is a big concern for the family because doctors warned that, without the surgery, the child’s vision in his ‘good eye’ could be negatively impacted or fail from overcompensating for the right eye.

Dad is unemployed since early August 2008. Mom lost her job at Westgate Resorts when it closed this summer, but she is now working at another telemarketer position for E-Tour & Travel earning $7.50 per hour sporadically. Dad works side jobs cleaning tables and doing maintenance for a food and beverage service business to try to pay the bills and stay focused. He has been volunteering at Orlando Day Nursey doing maintenance and odd jobs, to help pay off the balance on the family’s child care bill, which is partially subsidized by 4C, government funding.

The family remains upbeat, full of hope and prayer, in spite of their low income and extremely difficult financial circumstances. Instead of giving into depression, Dad prefers to stay busy volunteering and taking side jobs. Staying on a positive note, he is now pursuing the idea of enrolling in college to work toward becoming a Registered Nurse because he loves people and gets pleasure from making another person’s day brighter.
