January 23, 2006

ORLANDO and NEW YORK – The Orlando Magic and NBA TV are teaming up to unveil a special “Silent Game” on Feb. 26 that will be televised by NBA TV in high-definition with no game announcers, enhanced microphones on the court and a 70’s theme as part of the league’s ongoing celebration of NBA Hardwood Classic Nights.
The game, which will feature the Magic playing host to the Houston Rockets and wearing its inaugural 1989-90 season home uniforms, will tip off on Sunday at 3:30 pm ET at the TD Waterhouse Centre.
Throughout the special presentation no music will be used while the game is in play, and during any breaks in the action music with a 70’s theme will be featured with a pep band and organist also being utilized.
NBA TV’s telecast in high-definition will not feature any game announcers, and will only use the in-arena public address announcer. Microphones on the court will provide fans with enhanced sneaker sounds.
“NBA Hardwood Classic Nights are a great way to celebrate the history of our game,” said Gregg Winik, Executive Vice President, NBA Entertainment. “NBA TV’s special presentation in high-definition featuring enhanced on-court sound will transform fans’ couches at home into courtside seats.”
For the fifth consecutive season, the NBA and its teams are celebrating the past with a series of retro games titled NBA Hardwood Classic Nights. As part of their celebration 11 teams are honoring their history this season by commemorating specific historical events and milestones, the history of basketball in their city, or legendary teams and players by wearing uniforms from each decade of the NBA’s history, as well as having special ceremonies, in-arena entertainment and promotions.
