Orlando, FL – The Orlando Magic acquired the draft rights to forward
Ryan Humphrey (19th overall) and a second round pick in the 2002 NBA Draft (47th overall) from the Utah Jazz in exchange for the draft rights to Curtis Borchardt (18th overall), General Manager John Gabriel announced tonight.
Humphrey (6’8”, 235, 7/24/79) spent two seasons at the University of Notre Dame, averaging 16.6 ppg., 10.0 rpg., 2.0 apg. and 2.77 blkpg. in 60 career games. He also played in 63 career games with the University of Oklahoma (1997-99), averaging 10.1 ppg., 7.0 rpg. and 1.89 blkpg.
A tri-captain for the Fighting Irish in 2001-02, Humphrey led the team in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots, averaging 18.9 ppg., 10.9 rpg. and 2.81 blkpg. in 31 games. He ranked ninth in the nation in rebounding and 18th in the country in blocked shots. Humphrey established a school single-season record with 87 blocked shots and owns the highest career average in school history with 2.77 blkpg. He was named to the All-Big East First Team.

During his junior season (2000-01), Humphrey was an All-Big East Third Team selection. He averaged 14.1 ppg., 9.0 rpg. and 2.72 blkpg. in 29 outings. He led Notre Dame in blocked shots and field goal percentage, while ranking second on the team in scoring and rebounding.
As a sophomore at Oklahoma (1998-99), Humphrey averaged 11.1 ppg., 7.5 rpg. and 1.97 blkpg. in 31 contests. He finished second on the team and 11th in the Big XII in rebounding, and was fourth in the conference in blocked shots. Humphrey was named to the All-Big XII Third Team by league coaches and Honorable Mention by the media. During his freshman campaign with the Sooners, he earned All-Big XII honorable mention status from the coaches and was an All-Big XII Freshman Team pick.
