Magic Sign Travis Diener

Orlando, FL – The Orlando Magic have signed guard Travis Diener (DEE-nuhr), President/CEO Bob Vander Weide announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal are not disclosed. Diener was selected by the Magic in the second round (38th overall) of the 2005 NBA Draft.

Diener (6’1”, 175, 3/1/82) appeared in 120 career games during four seasons at Marquette University. He averaged 14.1 ppg., 5.1 apg., 3.1 rpg. and 1.32 stlpg. during his career, while shooting .413 (284-687) from beyond the three-point arc and .837 (385-460) from the free throw line.

Diener finished as Marquette’s career leader in three-point field goals made (284), second in assists (617), third in scoring (1,691 points) and eighth in steals (158). He was named to the All-Conference USA First Team twice (2003-04, 2004-05), the All-Conference USA Second Team once (2002-03) and to the league’s All-Freshman Team (2001-02). Diener also helped Marquette reach the NCAA Final Four in 2002-03.

During the 2005 Reebok Vegas Summer League, Diener appeared in five games with the Magic, averaging 8.8 ppg., 4.8 rpg. and a team-best 4.0 apg. in 23.0 minpg. He also shot .538 (7-of-13) from three-point range and .846 (11-of-13) from the free throw line.
