Magic Announce 2004-05 Television Broadcast Schedule

September 7, 2004

Orlando, FL – The Orlando Magic announced today its 2004-05 local television schedule for both the Magic Television Network and Sunshine Network. WRBW-UPN 65 serves as the over-the-air flagship station of the Magic Television Network for the sixth straight year, while Sunshine Network will begin its 16th season as the Florida cable television home of the Magic.

79 of Orlando’s 82 regular season games will be televised. During the regular season, the club will appear on the Magic Television Network (MTN) a total of 35 times, while Sunshine Network will carry 43 outings. Sunshine Network will also televise one preseason game. Former Magic head coach Matt Guokas will join play-by-play veteran David Steele for the call of all MTN and Sunshine Network telecasts. Orlando’s 2004-05 schedule also features one exclusive nationally televised regular season game on TNT, Thursday, January 20 vs. Houston.

The Magic Television Network’s broadcast schedule will consist of 25 road games and 10 home contests. MTN coverage on WRBW-UPN 65 begins Friday, November 5 @ New Orleans (7:30 p.m. telecast start time). Each UPN-65 broadcast includes a half-hour pre-game show, “Dodge Countdown to Magic.” In addition, WRBW-UPN 65 will once again provide viewers a Secondary Audio Programming (SAP) option to listen to the broadcasts in Spanish.

Sunshine Network’s 43-game regular season schedule includes 27 home games and 16 road contests. Sunshine’s coverage begins with a preseason game on Friday, October 15 @ Miami (in Tampa, 8 p.m. telecast start time). Each regular season Sunshine Network telecast will include “Magic Tonight,” the network’s half-hour pre-game show, hosted by Paul Kennedy.

Sunshine Network will team up again with Bright House Networks this season and produce 10 Orlando Magic regular season games in High Definition for Bright House Network's HD customers in Orlando and Tampa. Specific HD telecasts will be announced at a later date.

WRBW-UPN 65 is the UPN affiliate serving Central Florida. Available over-the-air to the entire market, UPN 65 is also carried by all area cable and satellite systems. In addition, WRBW-UPN 65 will simulcast their programming on its digital Channel 41, for viewers who have an HDTV receiver. Along with Magic games, UPN 65 broadcasts NFL pre-season Jacksonville Jaguars and hit shows like Judge Joe Brown, Judge Judy, America’s Next Top Model, Amish in the City, WWE Smackdown, and the much anticipated new series Kevin Hill. UPN 65 and its sister stations, WOFL Fox 35 Orlando and WOGX Fox 51 Ocala, are part of the Fox Television Stations group. One of the nation’s largest owned-and-operated broadcast groups, FTS, Inc. consists of 35 stations in 26 markets covering nearly 45% of U.S. television homes.

More than 6.1 million subscribers strong, Sunshine Network continues as the exclusive Florida cable television home of the Orlando Magic. Having partnered with the Magic since the club's inception, Sunshine Network provides coverage of the team to more than 3.7 million cable and satellite homes in the NBA-designated Orlando Magic territory of Northern and Central Florida. In addition to its Orlando Magic NBA coverage, Sunshine Network is also the Florida cable home to the NBA Miami Heat and NHL Tampa Bay Lightning. With a year-round lineup focusing on local and regional sports from Florida, Sunshine's strong collegiate schedule is anchored by Florida State University, University of Florida, University of Central Florida, ACC and SEC athletics. The regional sports network also produces original studio-based programs focusing on Florida sports including its day-long “Chevy Tailgate Saturday” college football lineup, “Sportstalk Presented by BellSouth,” and the “Chevy Florida Fishing Report.”
