Hibbert-Led Pacers Top Magic in Finale
By Dan Dugger
ORLANDO -- Roy Hibbert continued to have a successful week for the Pacers, even showing some range by scoring his first six points outside of the paint en route to a game-high 16 points and 11 rebounds in a 68-54 victory over summer league host Orlando.
For the week, Hibbert averaged 20.2 points and 9.0 rebounds over five games.
For the Magic, it was Courtney Fells providing the unlikely early spark. Having missed his first nine shots of the week, Fells connected on three buckets in the first quarter, scoring all eight of his points in the first frame.
Point guard Brian Chase was solid off the bench, burying five of his first six shots, including a dazzling spin move between two Pacer defenders in the second quarter for two of his team-high 16 points. Lance Allred contributed seven rebounds.
Although summer-league performances are taken with a grain of salt, the league serves as a platform for certain young, unproven players to showcase their talent and if you consider the Magic’s Anderson young or unproven, he did just that. Over the five days, 15-game league, Anderson averaged 21.4 points on 49.3 percent shooting while grabbing 9.4 boards per game in five outings.
