Dwight Howard Earns All-NBA First Team Honors
Becomes third player in franchise history to earn All-NBA First Team honors
Orlando, FL – Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard has been named to the All-NBA First Team, the league announced this afternoon. Howard becomes the third player in Magic history to earn All-NBA honors (Hardaway, McGrady). Last season, Howard was named to the All-NBA Third Team.
The All-NBA Teams were chosen by a panel of 127 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada. The media voted for All-NBA First, Second and Third Teams by position with points awarded on a 5-3-1 basis.
Howard played and started in all 82 games this season for the Magic, averaging a team/career-best 20.7 ppg., a career high and NBA-best 14.2 rpg., 1.3 apg. and a team/career-best 2.13 blkpg. in a career-high 37.7 minpg. He became the youngest player in NBA history to lead the league in rebounding (22 years, 130 days). In addition, Howard also ranked among NBA leaders in field goal percentage (third), blocked shots (fifth), minutes played (T-20th) and scoring (21st). Howard was named to his second NBA All-Star team in February (first start) and helped lead the Magic to the 2007-08 Southeast Division championship, the team’s first division crown since 1995-96.
Joining Howard on the All-NBA First Team were Kobe Bryant of the L.A. Lakers, Kevin Garnett of the Boston Celtics, LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Chris Paul of the New Orleans Hornets.
The All-NBA Second Team consists of Phoenix’s Steve Nash and Utah’s Deron Williams at guard; San Antonio’s Tim Duncan and Dallas’ Dirk Nowitzki at forward; and Phoenix’s Amare Stoudemire at center.
The All-NBA Third Team includes San Antonio’s Manu Ginobili and Houston’s Tracy McGrady at guard; Utah’s Carlos Boozer and Boston’s Paul Pierce at forwards; and Houston’s Yao Ming at center.
