A Little Magic Added to Extreme Makeover

Sadie Holmes may have been sent on a week-long vacation with her five children to Disneyland, but when she returned to Central Florida on February 24, she likely found more Magic than she left behind in California.

Holmes, a former drug addict who turned her life around and founded a local non-profit organization, Sadie Holmes Help Service, Inc., moved her family out of their house in 2003 after donations to the organization became overbearing. Soon after, Hurricane Charley and an electrical fire in August of 2005 left that premises severely damaged. With no means to fix the house, Sadie continued to run the non-profit out of the damaged dwelling.

Holmes, along with her five children, was surprised by ABC with the opportunity to be featured on its hit television show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." And when the Orlando Magic found out about the show heading to the City Beautiful, they jumped at the chance to lend a helping hand.

On February 23, the day before the Holmes family returned to see their new home unveiled, Magic forward Dwight Howard stopped by the Altamonte Springs abode with a few surprises for the family. Not only did he deliver a piece of the Magic court from the nearby TD Waterhouse Centre that was made into a desk, he also helped the show's design team, consisting of Ty Pennington, Paul DiMeo, Preston Sharp, Ed Sanders and Tanya McQueen, do last-minute preparations for the family's arrival in less than 24 hours.

And since the Holmes family is devoted Magic fans, particularly the 16-year old son, they were outfitted with an Orlando Magic themed room, complete with Magic memorabilia and season tickets for the rest of the 2005-06 season and the entire 2006-07 campaign.

Welcome home Holmes family!
