Miami Heat 91, New Jersey Nets 85
Earl Barron and the Miami Heat reversed their fortunes from their first game at the 2006 Pepsi Pro Summer League, downing the New Jersey Nets 91-85 in game one of the second day of action in Orlando, Fla. Barron, who had an 18-point performance in the Heat’s first game, an 83-65 loss to the Bobcats, pulled in 33 points and 15 rebounds to lead all scorers in the game and thwart a late comeback attempt from the Nets.

New Jersey was down nine, 73-64, heading into the fourth, but the Nets capped a 12-2 charge with a three-pointer from Marcus Williams with 1:10 remaining in the game, bringing them within two, 85-83. But Barron answered for Miami, hitting two free throws and a 13-foot jumper to put the Heat back on top by six, 89-83. The Heat hit 4-of-6 from the line in the game’s last minute to preserve the victory.

Barron also led all scorers in the first half with 18, knocking in 12 points and grabbing four boards in the second quarter to put the Heat on top at the half, 50-44. Miami outscored New Jersey 27-16 in the period after being down by as many as eight early in the game.

Josh Boone had a good first half as well, pacing the Nets with 15 of his 16 points in the first 20 minutes on 7-of-9 shooting. Former UConn teammate Williams also netted 16 in the contest, while Antoine Wright led New Jersey with 17. Barron was assisted by Dorrell Wright, who chipped in 19, and Robert Hite, who added 14 in the Miami victory.
