No Lottery Luck This Year - Magic Take 11
After taking Shaquille O'Neal with the first overall pick in the 1992 NBA Draft, the Orlando Magic defied the lottery odds by also winning the top pick in 1993. With O'Neal's help, the Magic made a 20-win improvement and just missed the playoffs at .500 in 1993. With just one chance out of 66, the Magic scored the No. 1 pick yet again and selected Michigan forward Chris Webber, trading him immediately to the Warriors for the draft rights to the No. 3 pick, Memphis guard Penny Hardaway and three future draft picks. Orlando also held the top selection in 2004, taking 18-year-old Dwight Howard with the top pick. This year's lottery wasn't quite as magical as in the past, garnering the club the 11th pick overall.
