The Magic selected 18th overall in the first round of NBA Draft 2002…It marks the seventh time in club history that Orlando will not have a lottery selection (1994-97, 1999, 2001)…Orlando was the first team in NBA history to have three lottery selections (2000)…However, they only kept one pick – Mike Miller, with the #5 selection overall…Miller went on to be named the 2000-01 NBA Rookie of the Year…The only other time that the Magic had multiple lottery picks was in 1998…Orlando selected Michael Doleac with the 12th overall pick, then Keon Clark with the #13 selection.

Nine of the Magic’s last 19 first round selections in the NBA Draft have been early entry candidates, including Steven Hunter, who was selected #15 in last year’s draft…Two of their three picks in 2000 (Mike Miller, #5 and Keyon Dooling, who was traded to the L.A. Clippers, #10) were also underclassmen…Miller and Hunter were both picked by the Magic after their sophomore seasons…The other underclassmen selected by the Magic are David Vaughn (1995, #25), Chris Webber (1993, #1), Shaquille O’Neal (1992, #1), Brian Williams (1991, #10), Dennis Scott (1990, #4) and Nick Anderson (1989, #11), who all entered the league after their junior campaigns.

DRAFT MEMORIES
Having just one-of-66 ping-pong balls in the cylinder, Orlando’s number came up to give the Magic the first overall selection in the 1993 NBA Draft...Orlando became the second team in NBA history to have the No. 1 overall pick in consecutive years...Houston was the first team to have back-to-back No. 1's (1983, 1984)…Orlando selected Chris Webber and then traded him to Golden State for Anfernee Hardaway and three future No. 1 draft selections...Then-General Manager Pat Williams represented the Magic at the May 23 draft lottery proceedings...The prior year, the Magic received the No. 1 pick by virtue of winning the lottery and selected Shaquille O’Neal.
