Training Camp Main

After spending the first 10 seasons of his NBA career as a member of the Golden State Warriors, Adonal Foyle is beginning his first season on the Orlando Magic. Known for his incredible shot blocking abilities and superior defense, Foyle should make an immediate impact for Orlando and help out in the paint. After Foyle goes through his first training camp in Orlando, he'll write a daily blog to keep everyone up to speed as the season approaches.

Day 5 of Training Camp

We played three quarters of basketball today. I can't move and my legs are definitely not attached to my body. So I plan on icing myself down in between practices.

Our play was a little sloppy today. It is the fifth day of camp and everyone is just tired. We all pushed really hard but everyone is really fatigued so I think that is the major reason for our sloppiness.

Last night I did get a chance to go out and experience Orlando a little more. I went out to a nice restaurant in downtown and got a nice lobster dinner. I was planning on going to go see a movie but after dinner I was just way too tired and decided to just go home and rest.

All I have to do is stick it out for the next couple of days until the two-a-days are through and I think everything gets easier physically from now until the start of the season.

Training Camp Day Four

Today was a great day. Coach only made us practice once today. The practice was from 11 AM to about 2 PM, and it was a nice easy workout. We did a lot more 4 on 4 half court work rather than scrimmaging so Coach could teach us more about our plays.

It was nice to sleep in a little this morning, and I am looking forward to having the rest of the afternoon to myself. I think I am going to use the afternoon to go out and get more comfortable with the city of Orlando.

I am going to use this opportunity to contact some of my friends back home and in the West Coast. I haven't talked to anyone in a while because I have been really busy with camp and getting settled in.

I think later on I'm going to the movies to see the new Jamie Foxx movie, "The Kingdom". I am a big movie fan and I doubt I will get time in the near future to go out.

After the movie I don't plan on staying up to late because it's back to business tomorrow with another two-a-day.

Day 3 of Camp

Today is the hump day. The third day is like mind over matter. You have to trick yourself or lie to yourself that your body feels good when it really doesn't.

Practice was hard but it seems to be getting more and more competitive. I got a chance to play with Dwight today as opposed to against him. My body liked this more because I didn't have to guard against his flying elbows.

Today I have two ice packs on my knees because I am a little more sore than I was yesterday. When I first came into the league, a veteran player by the name of Terry Cummings used to ice every part of his body. I used to laugh at him and he would laugh back at me telling me that one day I would feel his pain. I think that day was today.

I am going to go home in between practices to grab something to eat and relax. I like to read so I may start reading a book or a poem. I am just going to try not to fall asleep so I won't be drowsy for the second practice.

Second Day of Camp
After the second practice last night I got a much needed massage. Then I went home and I was so tired that all I wanted to do was sleep. So I put on the first season of "Grey's Anatomy" on DVD and just dozed off.

I woke up early this morning to get ready for practice. I got to the Sportsplex at around 8:15 AM. We began practice today by watching film of yesterday's practice. When we actually started practice, it was a lot more intense than yesterday. Hard to believe I know, but the guys really got after it today.

I am really impressed with Dwight Howard. He is truly a physically gifted athlete. Patrick Ewing has been working with him on his face up 15 foot jump shot. If he develops that, he is nearly impossible to guard in the post. I am looking forward to helping him take his game to the next level.

Now I am going to get something to eat to restore my energy. Yesterday I took a nap in between practices and that wasn't a good idea, so today I think I am just going to relax and watch some TV.

First Practice
Once Media Day was over last night I just headed home, grabbed something to eat, drank a lot of water, and laid down in bed. I watched some TV because it was so hard to sleep being anxious and excited for today's first training camp practice. I like to watch the show "Numbers", so I put that on and tried to fall asleep.

I woke up this morning at 7:30 and headed out the door. Once I got to the gym I grabbed something to eat and began to stretch out.

First practice is a lot of information thrown at you. We did a lot of running. Everyone was committed to working hard today.

Coach stressed defense a lot today. He has a lot of basic principles he is putting into place. We are going to be a very good defensive team because we are going to help each other out. The core principle behind the team is that we will have each other's backs.

It is a long day that has just only begun. I am going to go get something to eat and lay down before the next practice session at 4 p.m.

Media Day
Hey everyone, this is Adonal Foyle. It is really wonderful to be in Orlando and starting off a new season with the Magic. I’m looking forward to some great things with this team, so get ready for the ride.

This summer was a real crazy summer. I got my citizenship, I got my appendix removed, and I moved from California to Orlando. I did a lot of basketball camps for my new basketball foundation. So, overall it was a fun summer.

Just finished up Media Day, and it was really repetitive. It was a great opportunity to get to know the beat writers and all the local media here in Orlando. Great opportunity to get to know the staff and all the great people in Orlando. Training camp starts tomorrow so it’s kind of hectic around here but there is a lot of excitement going around.

Tonight is going to be a relaxing night for me to get ready for training camp tomorrow. I am going to go home, drink a lot of water, and get to bed real early. Looking forward to just going home, putting on my TiVo and watching all my favorite shows I missed throughout the busy week.

I’m looking forward to getting through these two-a-days. Going to China will be fun. I was just in Shanghai with Basketball without Boarders so I can’t wait to get back there and revisit all the great people I met over there.

Every day is a grind from here on out. My goal is to win a lot of games this season and make it through training camp alive.
