Timberwolves 98, Bucks 78

Orlando, Fla. – On Tuesday night, the Timberwolves jumped out to a huge lead against Detroit, but needed a last-second tip-in by Cal Bowdler to pick up the win. They obviously wanted the outcome of their game against Milwaukee on Wednesday evening decided much earlier.

Five players scored in double figures, led by John Wallace’s 15 points, as Minnesota pounded Milwaukee, 98-78, in the final game during Day Two of the Pepsi Orlando Pro Summer League at the RDV Sportsplex. Rick Rickert and Cal Bowdler each added 14 points for the Timberwolves. Milwaukee’s Norm Richardson led all scorers with 17 points, all of them coming in the third quarter.

Just like the previous evening, Minnesota (2-0) came out of the blocks on fire. Quincy Lewis hit his first four shots from the floor, and had nine points during a 17-7 run to open the contest. Wallace also had nine points in the quarter for the Timberwolves, who shot 63.2 percent from the field and took a commanding 28-13 lead.

Lewis drained a long jumper from the right wing with 7:20 left in the first half to cap off a 7-0 Minnesota spurt, which extended the Timberwolves lead to 22 points, 35-13. The Bucks experienced tremendous shooting woes throughout the first half, missing their first six shots of the second quarter and made only 11-of-32 (34.4 percent) in the half. On the other hand, Minnesota shot 68.6 percent from the floor and held a 29-point halftime advantage, 59-30.

After falling behind by 31 points midway through the third quarter, the Bucks made a mini-run. Richardson poured in all of his 17 points in the period and was 5-of-5 from the field, including 3-of-3 from beyond the three-point arc. Milwaukee (0-2) outscored the Timberwolves, 31-23, but still trailed 82-61 heading into the fourth. Minnesota opened the final stanza with a 6-0 spurt, but the outcome was already decided.
