ORLANDO – 2014 has been a year of surprises for Reverend David Duppins and his family.

In October, the Magic and Habitat for Humanity presented them with a brand new Orlando home. At that time, they were also given tickets to an upcoming Magic game.

And then on Tuesday, two days before Christmas, the Magic were joined by Walt Disney World Resort, Amway, Papa John’s, PepsiCo., Chase and Marriott Vacation Club to give the Duppins a night they will cherish forever.

David, his wife Matilda and their four children were honored at halftime of the Magic’s game against the Boston Celtics at Amway Center and were given gifts, including toys, electronics, Papa John’s gift cards, Pepsi products, Disney theme park passes and a five day/four night stay at Marriott Vacation Club in Hawaii along with airline tickets provided by the Magic.

The family rode in limo service to and from the game and they cheered on the Magic from courtside seats after enjoying dinner in the Fields Ultimate Lounge.

“We feel so great, so thankful for this experience,” David said. “It’s life changing. We feel wonderful.”

David was diagnosed with a severe case of malaria while serving as a missionary in Africa. Forced to return to the United States for better healthcare, he and his wife made every effort to improve their conditions. After years of devoutness and faith, they now have a beautiful home that will allow the entire family to live peacefully.

“The fact that the Orlando Magic would be so dedicated to the fans and to the community is really touching,” David said.

Thankful for Tuesday’s experience, the Duppins feel this is another step toward living a joyful and healthy life. They are also settling into their new home.

“It’s coming around great,” David said about the house. “We’re still moving things in and adjusting. It’s a great community for the children.”
