Magic Dancers: Favorite Moments of 2011-12 Season

The 2011-12 Orlando Magic Dancers share their favorite moments from throughout this past season.

My favorite moment of being a 2011-2012 OMD Dancer was my very first dunk after breaking my ankle in a Dunking Dancers show the previous season. After my injury I felt like everything was such a struggle to get back into. I was literally mentally battling myself on and off the dance floor and court. That day knowing that I had my teammates behind me and encouraging me, it felt like the final step to healing. And I did it! I wouldn't have been able to do it without everyone of you by my side. :)

During the 2011-2012 Orlando Magic Season we had the opportunity to host the All-Star game at the Amway Center! The entire week was filled with exciting events and performances. Everything hit me and reality sank in when we were standing backstage for the halftime show about to perform with Pitbull, Neyo, and Nayer. Stepping out onto the stage and seeing the entire arena packed was electric. It was a once in a lifetime experience and feeling I will never forget!

Being a part of the Orlando Magic Dancers for the 2011-12 season itself was a memory I'll never forget. The girls are some of the kindest, funniest people I've had the pleasure of working with and the season was full of surprises. One of my top most memorable moments was when we were able to perform along side of Pitbull and Ne-yo for the All-Star halftime show. We danced our hearts out along side of many other talented dancers who really inspired us. The performance was such an adrenaline rush and when it was over I wanted to do it all over again. There were so many artists and successful people who "made it" in the business there. It was hard not to be elated with what we were seeing and being surrounded by. So many talents! It was a great moment and week that I'll never forget.

My favorite moment of being a member of the 2011-2012 Magic Dancers is kind of random, but completely unforgettable. It was the moment that I found out the lockout was over and we were going to have a season. I was sooo happy! It was about 6 am, and my roommate (OMD Heather) ran into my room screaming and told me the news. That was the best day ever!

My favorite memory of being a member of the 2011-2012 Orlando Magic Dancers was when Shalize and I got the chance to choreograph our own routine "Shake Senora" to be performed on the court during a game. I was so excited because it was my first time ever doing this for an NBA game and I remember I felt accomplished and full of happiness when we danced at the game because the fans responded with cheers. Another plus was that my parents, brother, grandparents, & boyfriend were there to see me dance so i made them proud. It was an honor to truly represent and amazing that we could show our talents. I owe a big thanks to Jeanine and Cherie for giving us the opportunity to do this.

My favorite memory as a 2011-12 OMD was when the lockout finally ended. I remember it like it was yesterday. My teammate, Emmy and I are roommates, and I just happened to wake up around 6AM and want to check ESPN ( I did that every single day during the lockout). I saw the news, jumped out of my bed, ran into Emmy's room, and screamed, "the lockout is over!!" she jumped out of bed and we both made fools out of ourselves and hugged each other and danced around. It was amazing and I'll never forget it. :)

This 2011-2012 season was an amazing one! It's so hard to pick just one favorite memory I have from looking back on the season. For starters, it was such a privilege to be inducted into our team of dunking dancers this year, and participate in our very last dunk show of the year. There is no feeling in the world like flying off of a trampoline, while doing a 360 spin and dunking a basketball; so surreal. Being a part of so many of the All Star activities this year was also incredible, but I never thought in a million years that I would get to appear on a commercial for All Star during the actual All Star game! Needless to say, I am only scratching the surface of what was an absolutely unforgettable season! :)

My favorite memory as an OMD for the 2011-2012 season was the game VS. Miami on December 21st. That was our first pre-season game at home, and up until that point, we weren't sure if there would be a season all! I was so grateful for that night and to get to step out onto the court with an amazing group of teammates and supportive fans! I definitely got my Christmas gift a few days early! ;)

My favorite memory of the 2011-2012 Orlando Magic season was getting to travel to china with my coach and teammates! This was my first year on the team so it was a great chance to get to know my teammates since it was right in the beginning of the season. We traveled to three different cities performing at promotional events. The people in china were so excited and thankful to have us there which made it such an awesome experience! It was also really interesting to be able to see the culture of all the cities we traveled to. I feel so lucky to have been able to travel to china but being able to perform and represent the magic made it even more amazing! That was definitely my favorite memory of the season.

It is definitely challenging to name just one memory from the season, but one of my favorites was definitely the trips overseas. I have never been to Asia, and this year I was able to visit both The Philippines and China with the Orlando Magic. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about new cultures, tasting new foods, and performing for the students at Universities abroad. The enthusiasm and hospitality of the people was beyond words, and it was truly an opportunity of a lifetime!

My favorite of many moments was the very first time I stepped out onto the court in front of our Magic fans and danced for the first time! It gave me such an adrenaline rush and marked the beginning to an amazing first season!

My favorite moment this past year was definitely my first night on the court. Since it was my rookie year and the day after Christmas, it was such an overwhelming feeling. I had my family in for the holidays from Wisconsin and friends in the arena watching me. I will never forget the feeling when I first walked out on the court, shaking all the way through the national anthem with excitement!

Easy question for me. My favorite "magic moment" was when my boyfriend proposed to me at the magic/pacers game on March 11. He popped the question after we danced during the first quarter. After the dance was finished the girls made a tunnel an Alan was there waiting on one knee. The best part of the whole proposal that most people don't know is that I had about 25 family members there that had no idea Alan was going to propose. The dancing dads were performing that night and my father is an invaluable member I the team ;). My family came to watch my dad and had another great surprise as well. Not only my favorite magic moment but probably one of the best moments of my life so far!

My favorite memory of being a member of the 2011-12 magic dancers would have to be my trip to the Philippines. It was my first trip traveling overseas with the team and it was the best experience of my life. Having the opportunity to experience a different culture and to meet such talented kids at the schools we visited is something I will never forget.

So many great memories took place during the 2011-2012 season! Performing at the All-Star games with Pitbull/Neyo, and meeting some awesome celebrities! Along with just being able to perform at home games during this jam packed season that we almost didn’t have. However, My favorite would definitely have to be traveling to the Philippines! We had a blast teaching/helping the young students dance as well as performing at various events and judging a dance competition. We really had a chance to embrace a beautiful culture, and it is an experience I will cherish forever. Being part of this team with 20 beautiful women has been amazing! I've learned, grown and taken so much from my every year as an OMD, these memories will last a lifetime.

My most memorable moment this season as a magic dancer was being one of the 2011-2012 Dunking Dancers. I really enjoyed trying it during auditions my first year and seeing my amazing team members such as Virgilia and Abby do gravity defying stunts made me want to one day be alongside them. When I made the team this year that was one of the first things I wanted to try! We had two shows this season which went great because we practiced hard and gave it our all. The Magic fans seemed to really enjoy it, and Stuff-our Mascot was even dunked with us! I was very grateful to have had this opportunity to be a dunking dancer and it was an experience I'll never forget!

I have had a lot of wonderful memories in my 5 years as an Orlando Magic Dancer. My favorite memory from the 2011-2012 season is traveling to the Philippines with my teammates and Jeanine (Mama J). We met NBA legend Clyde "The Glide" Drexler, and performed for students at a few different universities. We also had our own personal secret service/bodyguards (haha), who escorted us everywhere we went. They protected me in the markets when crowds of people were following me, and taking pictures. They thought I was Paris Hilton!

My favorite moment as an OMD by far would have to be our whole Philippine trip!!! To be more specific, I really enjoyed performing for the students at all the schools. Once the week of performing was over for us, we got a performance in return from all of the schools we've performed for during the week! They performed their hearts out for us and inspired us to keep dancing for our lives, and it was clear we were their inspiration to do the same!

My favorite memory about the 2011-2012 season would have to be hearing the announcement that the lockout was officially OVER! It brought music to my ears an joy to my heart knowing that I'd be reunited with my Magic Fam and the Fans!
