44 ANDREW NICHOLSON
POSITION: Power forward
VITALS: 6-9, 250, St. Bonaventure, one year pro
2012-13 STATS: 7.8 ppg., 3.4 rpg., 0.6 apg.
ROLE WITH TEAM: Nicholson worked hard this past summer to better his body and improve his all-around game. He might need to show major improvements in order to keep his spot in the rotation as a reserve power forward.
PRESEASON EXPECTATIONS: Nicholson will start camp with much more definition in his arms and chest, and the hope is that the added bulk will make him a better defender on the low block and a tougher rebounder. Too often last season Nicholson was pushed under the rim while defending the post and that can’t happen this season. The Magic love his ability to provide instant offense off the bench and his heady style of play. But Nicholson must become a tougher defender and rebounder if he’s going to continue to get minutes as a power forward off the bench.
STATUS: Nicholson is almost certain to make the team, but he needs to make strides to stay in the rotation. Lengthening his shooting range and adding some muscle were big assets to add this offseason. Now, he must play tougher and with more confidence to separate himself in a crowded front court.
