The Magic closed the preseason schedule on Friday by resting their regulars in the second half of a 101-82 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans before 13,401 fans at the Amway Center. Orlando’s starters led a spirited charge in the second quarter to get the game tied and were given the rest of the night off to assure that they would head into the regular season without any major injuries.
``Whether it was in practice or in games, coach has been switching up lineups to see what he likes for Opening Night. And I feel pretty good playing with everyone now,’’ said Maurice Harkless, the only Magic player to start all eight preseason games. ``I think (Vaughn) did a good job of having everyone playing together for a good amount of minutes.’’
Vaughn said the mixing and matching of lineups throughout the preseason wasn’t necessarily a bad thing because it allowed him to play various combinations. Without the benefit of having one bona-fide star on the roster, Vaughn said his team will have to lean on several players and combinations of lineups from night to night during the regular season.
``We’re going to need everyone and when we go into games it’s going to be all hands on deck,’’ Vaughn said. ``During practice we got to have some combinations that will play with one another when we start the regular season. So I’m pretty confident that our guys will be able to adjust to one another once we all get healthy.’’
