The Magic made nine 3-pointers, shot better than 50 percent most of the game and pulled away from the Mavs (1-2) in the fourth quarter. Orlando led by 20 points early in the game, lost the lead in the third period and played sound basketball late for the victory.

``It feels good to win because we lost those first two games,’’ Harkless said. ``Even though it’s preseason we can’t get in those habits. We have to build winning habits. So it feels good to finally get one.’’

Kris Joseph scored 11 points and Manny Harris added nine points, while second-round pick Romero Osby had eight points and six rebounds for the Magic. Aging superstar Dirk Nowitzki had 24 points (and zero rebounds) in 26 minutes for the Mavericks.

Vaughn mixed up his starting lineup, giving opening assignments to Oladipo and Harris for the first time this preseason. Harkless, a small forward most of the preseason, opened at shooting guard, while the big man combo of Nikola Vucevic and Kyle O’Quinn opened at center and power forward.
