Denton: Magic vs. Hawks Analysis (12/29/13)

The victory allowed the Magic (10-20) to win consecutive games for the third time this season. It was also Orlando’s second straight victory on this home stand at the Amway Center after dropping the first three games.

It was the first time this season that the Magic won a game in which a foe scored 100 points. Previously, Orlando was 0-14 when opponents topped 100 points.

The Magic won because they had a season-best 30 assists on their 41 baskets. The combination of unselfish play on the offensive end and Oladipo’s relentless hustle on defense led to a banner night.

``Across the board we had a lot of guys who got on the floor and made explosive plays throughout the night,’’ Magic coach Jacque Vaughn said. ``Whether it was a couple of dunks at the rim, alley-oops passes and finishes – it was good to see us getting out in transition. But it started with us playing defense and sharing the basketball.’’

Riding the momentum of a career-best 11-assist effort on Friday, Oladio did a little bit of everything for the Magic. He scored 15 points and he also handed out another eight assists, swiped two steals and blocked a shot. He made four of seven shots and six of eight free throw attempts.

``He never gives up and is a guy who goes 100 percent the whole game,’’ Magic forward Tobias Harris said of Oladipo. ``That helps us as a team when a turnover happens and he gets back and gets a block. It gives us momentum when he’s hustling like that.’’
