Leaning to keep playing hard while saddled with foul trouble is still something that Vucevic is working through.

``Obviously it’s not the smartest thing to get six fouls in the third quarter, so that’s something that I still have to work on,’’ he said. ``I probably wouldn’t have been in the game with that many fouls, but I still have to be careful and be smarter. We need to foul less as a team and give them free throws. We played pretty good defense, but we just fouled them too much. My team needs me on the court and I have to be smarter than that.’’

Jason Maxiell, who signed a free-agent contract with the Magic in July, got his first start in an Orlando uniform. He played well early on and he matched up well physically against Memphis’ Zach Randolph. He finished with five points and four rebounds in 17 minutes of action.

``I know it’s going to be a physical night playing against (Randolph) and it’s my night to match his physicality,’’ Maxiell said. ``I tried to be a little bit quicker than he is, be just as physical and try to beat him to his spots.’’
