Denton: Magic vs. Celtics Analysis (2/2/14)

Arron Afflalo was steady throughout for Orlando, pouring in 18 points. Nikola Vucevic had 14 points and 11 rebounds and Tobias Harris chipped in 13 points. Davis scored 15 points, but he didn’t have a rebound in the first three quarters.

Jared Sullinger smashed the Magic (13-36) on the inside all night with 21 points and 12 rebounds. He and former Magic forward Brandon Bass (19 points and nine rebounds) helped the Celtics (16-33) score 42 points in the paint. Sullinger even buried a 3-pointer with 4 minutes to play to extend Boston’s lead to six points.

``That three was tough and we didn’t see that coming, but give them credit,’’ Davis said. ``He played great and Brandon played a great game. We gave up too many second-chance points. We have to do a better job of helping each other out and not letting them get off.’’

Nelson injured his knee in the first quarter of Friday’s defeat of Milwaukee and did not return to the game. He stayed in Orlando, meaning he will miss at least two games in a row. But Vaughn was happy with how Oladipo played in Nelson’s absence.

``I think overall he did some good things and this was a great learning experience for him to be able to be in a game where the ball is handed to him at the beginning and he had to get us in our defense and our offense,’’ Vaughn said. ``Better finishes at the rim (would be nice), and he’ll be able to do that for us in the future.’’
