Denton: Magic at Sixers Analysis (12/3/13)
According to ESPN Stats, it is the first time in NBA history that two rookies have recorded the first triple-doubles of their career in the same game.
``The entire time I was talking to (Carter-Williams) and talking a little trash too and it’s always fun to compete against a friend,’’ Oladipo said. ``(The triple-double) felt good, it felt really good, but I would have liked to have won and be on the other end of the stick. But they played a great game and I credit them for doing that.’’
Afflalo did not score in the second overtime until hitting the meaningless last-second 3-pointer, missing his first five shots of the extra period. Still, he made 14 of 27 shots, five of 13 3-pointers and 10 of 11 free throws. His 43 points topped the 36-point performance he had against the Milwaukee Bucks earlier in the season.
``Honestly I wasn’t mentally tired, but my feet hurt a little bit,’’ Afflalo said. ``You want to compete to the end, but I started noticing the strength in my legs in my shot. The ability for me to drive by players to create for myself and my teammates, (my legs) started to wear down in the second overtime. I’m a little disappointed that I wasn’t able to put my foot on the gas in the second overtime.’’
Afflalo, who had a clutch 3-pointer late in regulation and played the game of his career throughout, stunned the crowd of 10,061 when he drilled three game-tying free throws with 12.1 seconds left in the first overtime to stunningly knot the game at 118-all.
Playing in just his seventh game after missing 10 months with a fractured foot, Davis played 50 minutes and scored 33 points. He made 15 of 24 shots, none bigger than his clutch 3-pointer late in regulation. Davis fouled out in the second overtime.
``We wanted to win this game really, really bad,’’ Davis said. ``We just didn’t do enough things at the end of quarters and couldn’t get any stops when we needed them and Philadelphia capitalized off everything that they needed to do to win the game.’’
