Denton: Friday's Finish Was Special Treat For All Those In Attendance
In this 25th anniversary season of Magic basketball, we might need a re-write when it comes to those lists of the 25 best moments in franchise history. Forget Tinker-to-Evers-to-Chance; in Orlando, Oladipo-to-Harkless-to-Harris will forever have a place in Magic lore.
The play reminded many of the 1999 night when Darrell Armstrong won a regular-season game against Philly with a steal and a buzzer-beating layup and the 2007 game when Dwight Howard soared over Tim Duncan for a game-ending alley-oop dunk. The Harris dunk not only led ESPN’s SportsCenter on Friday, but it easily captured the No. 1 play on the show’s Top 10 Plays of the Night segment.
The national attention for the Magic was very much appreciated by Oladipo, who saw the play air over and over as Friday night slowly melted into early Saturday morning.
``It’s been a struggle this year, we’ve lost a lot of games and we had ups and downs and injuries, but we showed everybody that we’re going to continue to keep fighting and bettering ourselves,’’ Oladipo said. ``Eventually down the road, we’re going to be consistent and get this thing where it needs to be. I got about 45-to-50 (text messages) because people were so excited. It was pretty cool.’’
