``I’m just taking it one day at a time. I’m getting better. I don’t know how close (he is to returning), but every day it’s just me out there trying to get better,’’ said Davis, who already had a lather of sweat worked up before the Magic began practice on Monday. Orlando (2-4) plays at San Antonio (2-3) on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m.

``That’s all that matters now, making sure that I’m healthy enough to play the whole season and help this team win some ballgames. That’s where my mind frame is right now,’’ Davis continued. ``I’m getting up and down and getting in some basketball shape. They’re watching me as much as possible to make sure that I don’t skip any steps in the process. But everything looks good so far.’’

And what looks the best is Davis’ shrinking waistline. He hasn’t been specific about his weight, but he looks as trim as he ever has in a Magic uniform after trying a variety of methods to curb his weight. Davis toyed with being a vegan late last season and early this past summer. As of now, he goes to daily ``hot yoga’’ sessions where he does vigorous stretching exercises in 108-degree temperatures.
