1) What are your general thoughts of this upcoming trip?

RESPONSE

Klem-Thomas
First, it’s always such an honor to travel overseas to represent both the NBA and the Orlando Magic at any event! This particular trip marks the 20th country the Magic Dancers have visited since 2004 through military tours and NBA events...there are very few jobs where you get to combine doing what you love while traveling to some of the most beautiful countries around the world!

Second, this particular trip has so much personal significance for me since I am part Filipino and it will be my very first time visiting the Philippines and seeing where my Grandfather was born and raised! It has been a lifelong dream to travel there and I can’t believe that dream is finally coming true! Lastly, our trips are always filled with great adventures, sightseeing, cultural learning and shopping so I’m really looking forward to soaking it all in with Tara, Victoria, Kendra, Shalize, Lyndsay, and Priya! Watch out Philippines…here we come!!

Tara
In a few days we will be taking a trip to the Philippines for the 2011 NBA Madness Manila event, and I am so excited! I have never been there before, but I do have a 7 year old, Filipino godson, who lives there. We never know what they are going to throw at us when we take these trips overseas, but we are preparing for everything in rehearsals. It is going to be a very long trip....26.5 hours....my longest trip yet.

Kendra
I am so excited for the upcoming trip... I absolutely love to travel. I have never been to any Asian country before, and I can't wait to learn about their culture and dive right in and experience new food, sights, and adventure!! It is really an opportunity of a lifetime, and I am so thrilled to be a part of something like this.

Victoria
Each trip is a little more exciting than the trip before. With this being my 3rd trip with the team, I am most definitely looking forward to going to Manila, Philippines to learn, enjoy, and observe the differences in cultures through dance!

Priya
I have been lucky enough to work in an establishment where the majority of my coworkers are from the Philippines. Thankfully they have been trying to give me helpful tips such as, great shopping areas, beautiful site seeing opportunities and places to "stay away" from. Also I have been practicing my Tagalog (language spoken in the Philippines) and know how to say the important words like "thank you", "your welcome" and "how much". I’m really excited and cannot wait to experience this once in a lifetime opportunity.

Lyndsay
I am nervous and excited for the trip. The closer it comes the more nervous I am for the flight. I have not been on a plane in 6 years and I do not do well sitting for a long time so that has me nervous. But besides the plane ride I am very excited for experiencing a new country and culture.

Shalize
I'm so excited to be going to Manila, Phillipines! Not only will it be my first trip with the Magic but my very first time traveling out of the country! I am ecstatic to experience a new place, culture and be able to dance in the NBA events and bond with my teammates as well.

2) What are the essentials that you will need to pack in your carry-on luggage?

RESPONSE

Klem-Thomas
I never travel without my travel pillow and blanket, a good pair of headphones, a picture of my family, snacks and my toothbrush!

Tara
We always pack stuff to freshen up, a change of clothes, and 1 whole costume with pom poms, and make-up, in case our luggage doesn't make it. The show must go on even without luggage!!

Kendra
I plan to bring a good book, my iPod, and some essential doodling materials... Crayons etc :) yes... I am a big kid at heart :)

Victoria
The 1st thing I could think of to pack was my Snuggie, of course! I never travel without it. Next is make-up, some back up costume pieces (just in case luggage gets lost), and airplane approved toiletries.

Priya
Packing is one of the most stressful things for me to do, because I always feel like Im going to forget something. However, I will make sure I won't forget the essentials in my carry-on. This would include a book, ipod, computer or (hopefully a new ipad), blanket, socks, a pair of clothes, snacks (lots of snacks) and a pillow.

Lyndsay
I plan to pack quite a few books and a lot of Tylenol PM. :) MY Ipod will be a must and I would try to sneak my puppy in my puppy in my carry on if I could :)

Shalize
Travel pillow! And blanket will deffinetley be needed. Also some snacks, iPod, word search book, a good book, as well as a notebook and pen since I love to write!

3) How do you plan to entertain yourself during the 26.5 hour trip?

RESPONSE

Klem-Thomas
With a 4-year old, most movies I see these days are either animated or children’s movies, so whenever I travel I like to catch up on all the other movies I’ve missed out on. On our recent trip to Rome, which wasn’t nearly as long, I actually watched 4 movies in a row on the way home (I found the Black Swan to be pretty bizarre by the way but Adam Sandler’s Grown Ups had me in stitches)…considering our trip to the Philippines is much longer I should be able to catch up on every movie I’ve missed in the last year! Ha ha!

Aside from watching movies, I like to head into long trips like this fully exhausted so I can sleep during the long leg of the flight (which is 14 hours) instead of sitting and thinking about how uncomfortable I am stuck in a plane seat for so long! And when all else fails, it’s always fun to browse through the Sky Mall magazine to see what crazy inventions are out there! One way or the other, every hour in the air will be well worth it once we get there!

Tara
I am bringing my Nook e-reader to read a few books on the plane, and I am also bringing some yarn to crochet myself a new scarf. They normally have these TVs on the plane, where you can play games with other passengers and watch movies. I will play with that for a few hours, sleep, eat, watch a movie, sleep, eat some more, then there will still be 13 hours left of the flight.......ugh.

Kendra
I guess every great thing has it's downfall... 26.5 hours... Aaah! Well, I am positive I will make myself nice and exhausted the night before, so I can spend a good chunk of time doing my most favorite past time...sleeping!!! Thankfully I could fall asleep standing on one leg with my eyes open... So it shouldn't be too difficult :)

I am positive I will arrive in the Phillipines and not be able to fit into my shoes, because my feet will be twice as big!! (as if they weren't already amazon size ;)) the jetlag, giant feet, and 26.5 long hours will be all worth it, and I can't wait to play in a new country with 6 of the most fantastic women I know!!

Victoria
26.5 hours is a long time to be traveling, so bringing a few entertaining things on board to keep yourself occupied is a must! My list includes: headphones, mp3 player, a few books & magazines, and LOTS of snacks! The last trip we were on I brought the stick on nail polish, and that was pretty entertaining to me as well. I just might bring those on board too :)

Priya
I plan on watching movies, reading a book (maybe even a text book), listening to my ipod, and dreaming to entertain myself on this long trip.

Lyndsay
I plan to do a lot of sleeping and reading. I would also like to take the time to do some planning for work. Maybe watch a movie or two, bead a necklace, knit a sweater??? I should probably learn to do that first :)

Shalize
I plan on catching up on a lot of sleep, listening to music and writing or reading.
