ORLANDO -- Practice makes perfect.

This widespread message has encircled and will continue to surround the many aspirants who hope to earn a spot on the 2012-13 Orlando Magic Dance Team.

For the last week leading up to the First Round of Dancer Auditions on Saturday, Aug. 4, more than 100 dancers from around Central Florida have prepared in one of four pre-audition classes already held.

On Wednesday, for example, more than 50 young women participated in a two-hour tutorial to train for auditions week. Taught by five-year veteran and last season’s team leader Tara, the Dancers rehearsed a riveting routine.

Noticeably buoyant and cheerful, the participants showcased their moves and performed what they learned for Tara, Dance Team Manager Jeanine Klem-Thomas and Assistant Manager Cherie LaRosa, who awarded certificates to three of the standout performers.

Those certificates permit each of these candidates to automatically advance past the first cut of First Round auditions.

After pre-audition classes are complete and following the inaugural day of auditions, 30 finalists will be required to partake in a week-long tryout, which cover a range of tasks.

Before performing in front of a panel of esteemed judges and the public at Amway Center on Thursday, Aug. 9 for final auditions, the candidates will participate in three days of Boot Camp and a day of interviews with evaluators.

While being a first-rate dancer is imperative, there are other extremely important attributes one must have to earn a spot on this illustrious team, including showmanship, personality, energy, enthusiasm, professionalism and maturity.
