Adopts Midway Elementary to Ensure FCAT Success

Pat Garrity Goes Back to School

No time like the present…Orlando Magic Forward Pat Garrity starts early in assisting with preparations for Midway Elementary students and the FCAT. Midway Elementary improved its FCAT grade to a ‘B’ this past school year after being a ‘D’ school prior years. The Orlando Magic, Garrity and LeapFrog Schoolhouse have committed to helping Midway Elementary retain its ‘B’ grade through the Read to Achieve program and the use of the LeapFrog SchoolHouse. To ensure the school’s success, Garrity has “adopted” Midway for the upcoming school year.

Midway Elementary is one of four Read to Achieve partner schools. The other three include Nap Ford Community School, Thacker Elementary and Richmond Heights Elementary. Read to Achieve is a year-round campaign to help young people develop a life-long love for reading and encourage adults to read regularly with children. As part of the Read to Achieve program, the Orlando Magic has donated $20,000 of LeapFrog Schoolhouse products to each of its four partner schools over the last three years.

LeapFrog SchoolHouse publishes assessment and curriculum content for the PreK-Grade eight education market. The content is designed to correlate to state and national standards and is enhanced by LeapFrog proprietary technology-based learning platforms. LeapFrog SchoolHouse product areas currently include assessment, reading, language arts, math, English language development, and early literacy.

LeapFrog SchoolHouse offers the LeapTrack™ Assessment and Instruction System, which provides teachers with the ability to instantly assess their students, personalize student instruction, and continuously monitor student progress relative to state standards. LeapFrog SchoolHouse was established in response to numerous requests from educators to customize LeapFrog’s award-winning technology and educational products for the classroom. For further information on LeapFrog SchoolHouse, visit www.LeapFrogSchoolHouse.com or phone 800-883-7430.

In its third year of existence, Read to Achieve reaches an estimated 50 million children a year. The program is the most extensive educational outreach initiative in the history of professional sports. Locally, the Orlando Magic have donated more than 10,000 books and impacted more than 150,000 students.
