Outlaw Joins Magic in Community Outreach Efforts

Outlaw joins the Magic’s community relations department and will take part in a check presentation at a local community center

Orlando, FL – The Orlando Magic welcome back Bo Outlaw, who returns to the organization as community ambassador, Chief Operating Officer Alex Martins announced today. Outlaw will join Nick Anderson as community ambassador and take part in a variety of community outreach efforts.

Among his initial efforts, Outlaw will take part in the Magic’s check presentation to the New Image Youth Center, 212 South Parramore Ave., Orlando, 32805 on Thursday, March 6 from 3:45 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Outlaw also will visit with the children at the facility. Anderson will be on hand as well.

The center will receive $10,000 to purchase new computer software, school supplies, educational games and books. The center is a safe-haven to approximately 25 Parramore-area youth ages 5-15. This is part of the Magic’s commitment to assisting local community centers with reading and learning programs. The Magic have also provided assistance to the Pine Hills Reading and Learning Center and the Dr. James R. Smith Neighborhood Center.

A 14-year NBA veteran, Outlaw played in 914 career NBA regular season games with the L.A. Clippers, Orlando, Memphis and Phoenix, averaging 5.4 ppg., 4.9 rpg., 1.6 apg. and 1.31 blkpg. in 22.7 minpg. Outlaw also appeared in 22 career playoff outings, averaging 3.3 ppg., 4.0 rpg. and 1.2 apg. in 18.9 minpg.

Outlaw spent six-plus seasons (360 games-222 starts) with the Magic from 1997-2001 and 2005-07. He ranks on the Magic’s all-time career lists in blocked shots (2nd, 536), rebounds (5th, 2,160), steals (7th, 401) and games played (9th, 358).

During his time with the Magic, Outlaw was recognized for his outstanding work in the Central Florida community with the Rich and Helen DeVos Community Enrichment Award. He won the award three times (1998-99, 2005-06, 2006-07) and stands as the only player in team history to win the award three times.
