Beta Center Gift Delivery

The Magic hosted an internal Angel Tree Adoption program with its staff to benefit women and children at BETA Center and Harbor House. Staff selected a family from the Angel Tree and purchased items from their wish list. BETA’s mission is to provide children and parents with the knowledge and support needed for strong and healthy families. Harbor House provides safe shelter, a 24-hour crisis hotline, counseling and emotional support, and legal advocacy for thousands of domestic violence survivors and their children each year.

Florida Hospital Visit

As part of NBA Cares Season of Giving, Magic players Nikola Vucevic, Victor Oladipo, Solomon Jones and Tobias Harris stepped off the court to make a holiday visit to the pediatric patients at Florida Hospital for Children at the Walt Disney Pavilion. Vucevic, Oladipo, Jones and Harris delivered gifts, signed autographs, played games and brought ‘magic’ to young fans. Vucevic also presented Florida Hospital for Children a check for $10k prior to visiting with the children.

Orlando Magic Big Give

For the fifth consecutive year, the Orlando Magic celebrated Christmas in a BIG way surprising a local military family during the Magic vs. Knicks matchup. The Magic provided the family with a limo ride, dinner and courtside seats to the game. At halftime, the Magic showered the family with gifts. Champion of the Community partner Chase sponsored a home for the family as well.

Thanksgiving at the Coalition

For a 21st consecutive year, the Magic teamed with the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida to bring a smile to the faces of more than 700 needy Central Floridians. A hot breakfast with eggs, potatoes, sausage, biscuits and gravy, fruit, pastries, coffee and juice was served throughout Thanksgiving morning. And because the face of homelessness has shifted from the middle-aged male to single parents with kids, a carnival was put on and free haircuts were provided by Paul Mitchell, The School.

Internal Autograph Session

Each season, the Magic team and coaches autograph more than 1,000 items for schools, nonprofit organizations and other charitable events. The items signed included photos, basketballs, jerseys, shoes and a variety of Magic paraphernalia all autographed using the official autograph marker of the Orlando Magic, Dixon Ticonderoga Redisharp Permanent Marker. The value of the exclusive autographed items is approximately $250,000. The items are distributed into the community during the season to assist charitable endeavors.

Orlando Magic and Chase Court Refurbishment

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month and NBA Cares Week of Service, the Magic and Chase teamed up along with Magic guard Victor Oladipo, Magic CEO Alex Martins, Magic Dancers, STUFF the Magic Mascot and Magic Community Ambassadors Nick Anderson and Bo Outlaw to unveil a refurbished basketball court at John H. Bridges Community Center. The restored court will benefit the more than 250 youth who visit the community center, which primarily serves Hispanic children through the Head Start Program.

In celebration of the Magic’s 25th anniversary and as part of the NBA Cares Week of Service, the Magic hosted the Dominguez family as the first Magic Makers at the Magic vs. Pelican’s contest on October 25. The family was treated to a VIP experience including courtside seats, a personalized jersey, meet/greet with Magic players Tobias Harris, Moe Harkless and Victor Oladipo, as well with Community Ambassadors Nick Anderson and Bo Outlaw.

Pink in the Paint Game

The Magic and Florida Hospital hosted Pink in the Paint Breast Cancer Awareness Night at the Magic vs. Pistons game. The night featured a “VIP Pink” pre-game reception for more than 100 breast cancer survivors. Six Central Florida breast cancer survivors were featured honorees at the game taking part in the high-five lineup with the players during introductions.

Basketball Camps Bring Local Youth Closer to the Magic

Though predominantly confined to a wheelchair, Kyle Darroch still attends many of the Orlando Magic Basketball Camps to cheer on the other teenagers playing basketball. The 13-year-old attended several Magic games last season and is a regular TV viewer when Orlando is playing at home or away.

The Magic – with help from community partners Kia Motors and Turner Construction and City of Orlando District 3 Commissioner Robert Stuart – renovated the Reading and Learning Center at Rosemont Community Center. It’s the 11th Reading and Learning Center, presented by Kia, that the Magic have helped to remodel in the Central Florida area.

OMYF Black Tie & Tennies Gala

The Orlando Magic Youth Foundation’s (OMYF) Black Tie and Tennies Charity Gala raised $547,308 with matching funds at .50 on the dollar provided by the McCormick Foundation. All proceeds benefit the OMYF.

Jameer Nelson wins Community Enrichment Award

The OMYF honors a player who has dedicated his efforts off the court for the purpose of enhancing other’s lives. A panel of external representatives selected Jameer Nelson as the winner. In addition to receiving the award, Nelson was granted $50,000 from the Richard and Helen DeVos Foundation to donate to the charity of his choice.

Hungerford Elementary Receives Hi-Five Packs

The Magic, UnitedHealthcare and Second Harvest teamed up to deliver food packs to Hungerford Elementary. Earlier in the week more than 300 people including Magic players, Magic Dancers, Magic staff and UHC employees assembled Hi-Five Kids Packs for Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, providing 13,500 Packs to underserved children in the tri-county area.

In appreciation of the Magic’s Hispanic fan base, for the second consecutive year the team wore “El Magic” jerseys for three home games. The jerseys are part of Chase and the team's continuing efforts to connect with the entire community of Central Florida. The Magic and Chase also refurbished a court at Pinar Elementary—a school with a large Hispanic population—to update the facilities built in 1976.

OMYF Distributes More Than $1 Million to Community

OMYF, a McCormick Foundation Fund, presented 17 Central Florida non-profit organizations with checks totaling $1,050,000. It is the third consecutive year that the OMYF has awarded at least $1 million in grant money, bringing the total to more than $17 million handed out over the last 22 years.
