Cohen: It Would Make Sense If...

4 of 5 COMPETITION'S INJURIES COULD HELP MAGIC

Cohen's Analysis: The Magic are currently on the outside looking in, but it would make sense if in a month or two they are amongst the top eight in the Eastern Conference standings.

The injuries to Philadelphia’s Andrew Bynum and Indiana’s Danny Granger could help Orlando storm past those two opponents as the Magic’s schedule softens up and the Sixers and Pacers’ schedules become more grueling.

In addition, there are rumblings out of Milwaukee that perhaps either Brandon Jennings or Monta Ellis -- both impending free agents in the summer -- could be traded by the deadline. If there was a deal involving either of them, it’s very much ambiguous what the Bucks would net in return and if they would still be in playoff contention.

We know Miami, New York, Atlanta, Brooklyn, Boston and Chicago SHOULD all be in the postseason this year -- although the Celtics’ struggles early on and the uncertain return of Derrick Rose for the Bulls may ultimately alter that forecast. Nonetheless, those are six expected locks for the playoffs, which suggests there are two open slots remaining for Orlando, Philadelphia, Indiana and Milwaukee.
