Cohen's Analysis: While it’s still too hasty to determine who the top college prospects are, one thing that has been well recognized amongst pro scouts is that there doesn’t appear to be a guaranteed superstar in the making this year.
One Eastern Conference executive earlier this season told me: “This is the wrong year to be at the bottom of the league. Don’t expect there to be any benefit in having the No. 1 pick vs. having the No. 8 pick.”
If this holds true, it would make it less daunting if the Magic finish slightly outside the playoff picture and don’t secure a top five draft pick.
The same executive also said:
“Watch out for the draft class of 2014. You may see teams give up some of their best players to try and bottom out and make a push for one of those two top picks.”
