Cohen's Analysis: For most teams it’s way too early to start scoreboard watching.
For clubs guaranteed to be above the playoff line, seeds don’t need to be sorted out and competed for in December. For clubs almost surefire not to be playing in late April/early May, what the rest of the league is doing is practically irrelevant (aside from eventual draft lottery odds).
But for the franchises who will be on the border all season, what happens now actually matters. It’s generally safe to assume Miami, New York, Brooklyn, Boston, Atlanta and Chicago will advance in the East. The final two slots will be a scrap between Indiana, Philadelphia, Milwaukee and Orlando.
If Andrew Bynum doesn’t return soon for the Sixers, they may deteriorate. The same can be said for Danny Granger and the Pacers. For all you Magic supporters, it may be worthwhile every night to pay close attention to the results of the games that feature Indiana, Milwaukee and Philly.
